Click here for Riley's Facebook Album 10-20-2026: Riley is an adorable tricolor and white American Field bred Setter. He was born on August 8th, 2026. He and his brothers came to us from a breeder in Missouri that was happy to let his 3 boys into our program to find them loving forever homes. The puppies have no papers so we will be doing some DNA testing on Bradley to see if there is some Llewellyn Setter in the mix which would be fun. Riley and his brothers were treated with kindness and it shows. They are very happy, confident, fearless little Setters. They are very social and are very people oriented. The boys are going to make amazing family pets. As with all of our puppies, we are looking for Foster to Adopt families in the Chicago area as per our Illinois Department of Agriculture license. Because of that, we can delay neutering until after we do our mandatory blood work when the boys are 8 months old and they neuter and microchips after we look at their overall health. We also require safe fenced in yards-- traditional only, they are too little to consider invisible fencing. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
George's Facebook Album June 2024: Happy 2 year rescueanniversary Sir George. He’s come a long way in 2 years, but I haven’t had any adoption inquiries on him in over a year. He’s safe in a loving foster home where he loves to play with his foster sisters and he also loves to look for squirrels. He is also completely spoiled rotten getting the yummiest food and he feels safe and loved. I can’t even imagine how frightened he must have been in that awful cage we saved him from—and him having to suffer being outside 24/7 in all weather. It is a feel good to know his life is so much better now. February 2024: at long last-- my sweetie pie is heartworm negative!! So are 3 of his sisters which makes me very proud as Illinois Birddog Rescue will only do the slow kill treatment plan. His 3 sisters are in loving forever homes and I can hope that his perfect new momma is out there looking for him. The funny part about Georgie is that lately he has turned into a fuzzball with the funniest hair. He is also having the best time watching the squirrels in the yard as we have several building nests in our big trees. George has also become the sweetest most loving dog. He loves to be loved on. He loves to be brushed and he loves any attention he can get. January 2024: I've taken quite a few indoor photos of Georgie since the weather change so take a look at his album. He is so happy being an indoor dog considering his past life. I've gotten to know him a lot better too. He's been so great with all my dogs, especially my senior dogs and he is 100% cat safe. His passion is squirrel hunting and he will watch the antics of the squirrels for hours if I would let him. Lately we have been doing a lot more cuddles and George loves to be brushed. He's been a good sport about modeling the fundraising dog coats and a dog bed we also had in a fundraiser. The perfect home with George would be with a single lady or a pair of ladies that will give him time to trust. While I've always been able to love on George, it would be an adjustment for him to move to a new forever home. If there was a sweet female playful dog in the home, that would be even better. I have not taken him out and about so I don't know how he would do at a pet store or on a walk. My goal has just always been to help him get over the horrible life he had prior to coming into our rescue in June of 2022. He seems to have suffered the worst and is fearful with flashlights especially. He can get overly excited when folks walk by the house and delivery vehicles also get him a little excited. The sound of garbage trucks tend to scare him too. George will need a home with a privacy fence or a fence that has vertical bars which is working well for his fence jumping sister. In the perfect home, George will be a loving companion and if with a single lady-- a reliable watch dog. I am hopeful that his next heartworm test will be negative. Lyme disease is NOT curable so he will have to have annual testing and periodic antibiotic therapy the rest of his life. June 2022: George is a very handsome Liver/ Tricolor and white Field bred English Setter. He is an owner surrender and lived most of his life in an outdoor pen were he was trained to pee and poop through wires that he was also force to walk on. His neglect includes heartworm and Lyme disease and he had a 103 temperature upon arrival to our vet. George has started heartworm slow kill and is feeling better and we hope his sweet personality comes to the surface the longer he is treated. I was told the dogs are 6 years old but we will never know for sure. He is underweight and weighed 49lbs but should be closer to 55. We need to treat him at least a month before he can be neutered. He will need work on cage and house training. We are looking for a Foster to Adopt home in the Chicago area so we can monitor his care. candidates also need to have a traditional safe fenced in yard as the last thing George needs is any more stress. He is starved for attention and we are hopeful he will have a long happy life. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
October 2026: Rowan is my sweet baby boy!!! I've been his 2nd momma since he was born and how lucky am I to see him grow to be the most handsome puppy in foster care. Rowie is a little over 4 1/2 months old and close to 60lbs-- maybe. He has had the best socialization with dogs of all sizes and he is lucky to play with his momma too. Rowie is cage trained beautifully and he is nearly house trained. He is a big puppy, however, and still grabs things that he shouldn't. Having raised him to be the best boy, he is very cuddly, he takes treats very gently and he walks well on leash. I always thought Rowan was the pick of the litter because he had the most firsts when he was younger. He was the first to go up the stairs, the first to go in the kiddie pool and he is so brilliant with his retrieving skills. I want Rowan to working home-- a home where he can train in Agility, Obedience, and other fun dog sports like Tracking and Nose Works. He would be a great pup to train for his Canine Good Citizenship as well. The new photos were taken October 3rd and I can only imagine how handsome he is going to be when he is an adult. I am only looking for a Foster to Adopt home in the Chicago area that has a young dog buddy for him and he also needs a safe fenced in yard at least 5 feet high. Dane and or Setter experience would be a bonus. Best guess is Rowie will grow to be over 100lbs as an adult. Visit IBR's Facebook Page to see Whitley and her puppies in action! August 29, 2026: Rowan is now a whopping 42lbs at just under 3 1/2 months old- YOWZA!!! He is growing like a WEED and almost as tall as his momma. I've had more fun photographing this puppy and I am the lucky one that gets to love on him everyday. He is getting so strong and he will be a very active puppy and will need a lot of exercise as he is 1/2 field bred English Setter. I want him to have a home where he will get lots of walks, but he is so brilliant and so food motivated that he needs to be stimulated in puppy school and even dog Agility would be something he would love. Rowan is very bright and food motivated and should excel in lots of dog sports. I want him to have a home with a large safe fenced in yard and he needs at least a young dog to play with. Best guess is he will be 90-100lbs or more as an adult. UPDATE: Rowan aka Goin' with Rowan, is such a delightful puppy and almost 3 months old. He's handsome as well is bold and confident. He's also as sweet as can be-- loving to be held, cuddled and kissed. Rowan plays well with his siblings and also many of the adult dogs in my yard. He's got so much potential and has already played in my agility tunnel and he has also gone in kiddie pool. Rowan was also the first to climb out of the puppy pen and he learned stairs quickly. I'd love Rowan to go to a home where he can do fun dog sports like agility or fetch. He does like my dog feather toys but hasn't established point just yet. Best guess is he will grow to be 90lbs or so and will have more delicate features like his Setter momma, but he does have the coloring of his Dane daddy. The best family for my sweet Rowan will be fun and outgoing. He is very special. On May 8th, I was notified about an English Setter that was in an over-crowded shelter in Kentucky and she was very pregnant. Luckily we got Whitley to town a few days later, and we got her to our vet and settled into foster care. She delivered the Trend Setter litter on May 17th. We were able to chat with her previous owner and suspected that the daddy might be the neighbor's Great Dane and DNA did confirm the puppies are half Dane and half Setter. It has been a gratifying experience helping mamma Whitley deliver her puppies and making sure she gets the best nutrition and care while she nurses her big beautiful puppies. They have been handled everyday, loved on, kissed all over and now they are playing with each other which is so fun to see. I can only imagine what magnificent dogs they will grow up to be, but they will be high energy like mom and will absolutely need homes with safe fenced in yards. While Whitley is a pretty 45lb tricolor and white Setter, daddy's genetics are more dominant and the puppies look like little Danes. HOWEVER, I believe they will have delicate features like their mamma and they are already showing some very sweet Setter traits including being affectionate, and giving kisses. They also LOVE to be loved on, and especially love to be held and cuddled. These little puppies are just pure joy- so incredibly special! I am amazed how fast they are growing and can only imagine how big they will be as adults. We are only offering Foster to Adopt in the Chicago area as the puppies will need blood work when they are 8 months old and because they are mixed with a larger breed, we want to let them grow with the benefits of their hormones to help them grow properly and to spay or neuter after a year. They will be available to move to their new homes after their exam and 1st vaccination around the 19th of July. Story
October 2026: Whitley is now IBR's Full Of Surprises. She is my next foster I plan to put an AKC Junior Hunter on- WOO HOO!! While her mommy duties are over, she still loves to play with her son Rowan, and she's been playing with newbie Setter- Beverley. Her tail feathers are starting to grow back slowly and she's looking great-- no more hip bones or spine showing. Since she overcame her cat curiosity, she is loose in the house most of the time and has turned into such a couch potato. I don't think caring for her and her puppies would have gone so well had she not been a well adjusted former house dog. It still upsets me to no end thinking about how close she and her puppies came to being killed in an over-crowded Kentucky shelter. She's such a nice dog. With some consistent training, she would make an excellent hunting companion besides a wonderful house pet. Visit IBR's Facebook Page to see Whitley and her puppies in action! Her recovery page is also here August 2026: Whitley is still caring and playing with 1 of her boys while 4 have moved to Foster to Adopt. She is such a special momma and now that the boys are bigger, she's really rough housing with them. Some fun new-- now that she has been medicated the last 3 months for her tick borne diseases, her obsession with my cats is gone. Often times once the brain starts to heal, some of the dog's OCD behaviors go away- and it's like she is a completely different dog now. She can now be loose in my house and is friendly with all my cats. On May 8th, I was notified about a pretty tricolor and white English Setter (Llewellyn), that was in an over-crowded shelter in Kentucky and she was very pregnant. It has been a gratifying experience helping mamma Whitley deliver her puppies and making sure she got the best nutrition and care while she nursed her big beautiful puppies. She has been an amazing momma but now that her motherly duties are winding down, it's time to find her a new forever home. Whitley is actually mostly Llewellyn Setter- which is just a more line bred field English. She has typical Setter energy and will need her quota of exercise everyday- but she's also happy to rest in her cage, especially when we had warm weather. She is a super fun Setter, and she loves to play with her puppies, some of my younger dogs and she loves the kiddie pool. She is not cat safe. Whitley will be 4 on August 29th and we are offering Foster to Adopt in the Chicago area only as she will need to be spayed once her hormones calm down. She will also need a home with a privacy fence as she can clear a 4 foot chain-link fence. While I was told Whitley was professionally trained for upland bird hunting, she is noise sensitive to fireworks and also to other loud noises like thunder. I also think she may have been abuse with an Electronic collar. For now I am only looking for a Setter loving adoptive home in the Chicago suburbs. Story
Click here for Beverley's Facebook Album September 2026: I was sent a text on 9-6 from a friend about 2 tricolor and white Setters that were dumped on a rural road in Eastern Kentucky. Thankfully they wound up at a local vet where they started to get medical care as I worked on foster homes and transport. Beverley and Langley (now in his new home), flew to Illinois with the help for Pilot Christy a week later. Beverley is safe in foster care and being treated for Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever and thankfully doing well. We are sure both dogs were dumped because they weren't hunting and sadly as they were starved, we know Beverley, especially, was treated unkindly. She can be timid, but once she feels safe, she is a very loving silly Setter. Bev is also learning how to play with other dogs and she is also learning about toys. We will need a patient, caring home that can help Beverley continue to build her confidence. We are only looking for a pet home in the Chicago area that has a safe fenced in yard. Bev would also benefit from a confident playful companion. We do require safe fenced in yards. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application.
