Story
Riley is a sweet, gentle, kind, and goofy boy. His breed is English Setter and is about 6 years old.  He lived happily on a rescue property with the owners and their other dogs. Riley and his doggy family were only surrendered due to his family's life situation.  He's been slow to decompress with the foster parents and shut down. Despite his initial fear and constant trembling, he has slowly built-up trust.  He now loves to be near his people.  He especially enjoys belly rubs and ear scratches.  As of yet he is not really interested in indoor/outdoor toys or brain puzzles.  He trembles when he sees new people but will allow gentle pets.   Riley is quiet and enjoys sleeping on the sofa next to his foster family during the day.  He sleeps at night next to the bed.  He occasionally jumps on the bed while his foster parents are sleeping.  When he first arrived, he hid behind the family room sofa and would rarely come out.  After just 2 weeks, he stopped hiding.  When Riley feels a bit overwhelmed, he goes up to the landing or back to the bedroom and rests there.  His worst fears are being outside.  He trembles when he hears the leash but with gentle coaxing, he will go out to do his business.  As soon as he is done, he turns arounds and heads home.  I honestly believe he will enjoy walks again, once he finds himself in his forever home.  When Riley encounters dogs, he initially boops noses and then becomes indifferent and continues on his walk.  In the home, he again boops noses with any visitor dogs and then goes up one level and watches everyone from there.  He will come down every once in a while, to check things out, and then separates himself, once more. He is a very special boy showing no aggression, despite his fears.  He would be the perfect pet for an older family with lots of patience.  At this time, it would be better for Riley not to be around young children.  Riley needs the time to adjust to this huge change in his life, in his own way.  If given the approval to be himself, Riley would provide so much love and happiness to everyone and everything around him. He needs a house with a fenced in backyard, he can't live in an apartment b/c elevators, all the new people and stress of getting from A to B would be too much for him.  More about Riley &#239&#130&#183  Good with dogs &#239&#130&#183  Reaction to new people: Nervous but gentle &#239&#130&#183  Housetrained. He will hold his needs for long periods.  &#239&#130&#183  Color: White with Black spots &#239&#130&#183  Activity level: Very laid back.  However, once he adjusts, he would probably enjoy walking more,  &#239&#130&#183  Indoor/outdoor: Indoor Only  May 4, 2024, 11:53 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.THACKERY came from Slate Lake which is a Northern Ontario community and he came south in search of his forever family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and been deemed a healthy boy. We’ve been told one of his parents was a Golden Retriever but no information on what breed the other parent could be. At a guess though, we think possibly a German Shepherd. Seeing as we don’t know both parents the size he’ll grow to be is also a guess but seeing as he’s just on a year old, chances are he’ll not grow much bigger. THACKERY is crate trained and sleeps quietly in there through the night and he’s also housetrained and will let you know when he has to go outside for his bathroom break. He loves to go on walks but would benefit from some leash training so he understands what’s expected of him when leash walking. He’s well socialized with other dogs and currently being fostered with 2 resident dogs and they all get along very well. Other dogs also come over to the house for visits so lots of doggie experience for this young man. Seeing as he loves to be with other dogs we would like to see him go to a home that has another one and one who’s a gentle soul just like he is. He loves to play outside in the yard and run around with his friends so a fenced-in yard is required for him. He has met a cat in his foster home and he’s not bothered by him at all but they haven’t actually met face-to-face so we would only recommend a home with a dog savvy cat and the two should only meet under strict supervision. THACKERY is very playful and loving and he loves nothing better than getting attention and having snuggles with his human on the couch. He is a sensitive somewhat anxious boy due to not having had a lot of human interaction but he did get attached to his foster mum pretty quickly. He now wants nothing more than to be with her so we would prefer him to go to a home that has someone who’s around most of the time. The toys he can play with are quite limited as he loves to chew so he would need super strong chewy ones, Nyla bones, deer antlers etc. Due to being a bit anxious he needs to be monitored if he starts to chew on his dog bed or blankets as he has been caught doing that a few times. An experienced dog owner is required for him and a quiet home to suit his sensitive nature. He’s not been exposed to too much noise and he tends to be a bit jumpy because of that. He does know some basic commands like sit, stay and will take his treats “gentle.” He does love his food and eats alongside the other dogs in the home with no problems at all. He hasn’t been exposed to children so we’re recommending they be aged 12 plus and be caring and loving towards dogs. He’s still under a year old and he would definitely benefit from obedience/leash training so please only apply for him if you’re going to be committed to doing this for him.   If THACKERY sounds like the boy for you then please submit an adoption application to meet him. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2024, 9:16 am
