About 6 weeks ago, we rescued a Bernese mountain dog puppy that weighed only 5 pounds. We think the breeder gave her up because she was just tiny compared to the rest of her litter.  We ran all sorts of tests and our team believes that she likely has psychogenic polydipsia, which is an obsessive need to drink water. We are checking daily to test for medullary washout which involves the concentration of urine.  The great news is that she is starting to fill out and put on weight. She’s gained about a pound a week and is really starting to look good. We think she will remain on the petite side for her breed. She loves to play and has the sweetest personality. As we wrap up her tests, sweet Matilda is ready to start looking for her forever home. She’d prefer a family who has experience with Berners or other large-breed dogs. She requires a physical, fenced yard; no apartments because she’s chatty! She is handsy and mouthy right now because she’s a rowdy puppy, but we know she will be a great family dog. She loves kids and other dogs and just wants to be loved. Matilda is being fostered in the Atlanta (Georgia) area and priority will be given to local, qualified adopters in the area.
