Story
Sophia is a young 1-2 year old sweet dog.
When we first saw the little dog we later named Sophia, we knew we had to step in. She had been found as a stray, and it was hard to tell what she even was under all the matted fur. We could see she was some kind of poodle mix.
Our team dropped everything, and with the help of a caring local groomer, we got to work. Years of thick, painful, dirty matting covered her body. Through it all, Sophia was sweet and gentle from the very first moment. Her tail never stopped wagging, and she seemed to hug everyone she met, as if she knew she was finally safe. It took three of us working side by side, two clippers running at the same time, for four hours to free her from all that matting. Underneath it all, a beautiful doodle emerged, most likely an Aussiedoodle. Watching her feet touch the ground without painful mats for the first time was truly amazing. She walked lighter, happier, as if she finally understood that the worst was behind her. We recently rescued Sophia and another dog, Chloe, locally after they were found running along the road. Sophia was in much worse condition when she arrived; . Despite what she has been through, she is exceptionally sweet and friendly with everyone and with all the dogs she has met, and everyone who meets her agrees on how wonderful she is.
Given the condition she was in when we found her, it appears she may have lived outdoors. She currently has no leash manners and will need help with housebreaking in her new home. It will almost be like starting with a puppy. The good news is that Sophia is very eager to please, and we believe that, with time, patience, and commitment, she will learn quickly.
Sophia is fully vetted and scheduled to be spayed next week. She has received comprehensive veterinary care, including:
Rabies vaccine
Distemper vaccine
Bordetella/parainfluenza vaccine
Heartworm test
Flea and tick preventative
She has been microchipped.
Sophia’s adoption fee is $450.00. This includes her spay surgery, all vaccines, and her microchip. We are a private rescue organization rather than a shelter, and we frequently pay out-of-pocket to ensure our dogs receive the care they need before adoption. Our primary mission is to help dogs on euthanasia lists and dogs with medical needs, and your adoption donation directly supports this work.
