Story
Weighs around 50 lbsFrom dog walking volunteer: `Meet Winnie — Gentle, Brave, and Worth the Wait Winnie is an approximately 2-year-old lab mix who recently arrived at the shelter, and she’s handling it with quiet grace. When I first walked by her kennel, she was calmly lying down—no chaos, no “pick me!” performance. When I asked if she wanted to go out and showed her the leash, she slowly got up and came to the gate like, “Okay… I trust you.” That kind of soft willingness says a lot.As soon as we started walking, I noticed she was skipping a few steps with her back leg. The medical team is already on it and sending her to a specialist to come up with the best plan to help her feel better. She’s being cared for—and that matters.Even though she’s not feeling 100%, Winnie walked nicely on leash (which might partly be because she’s taking it easy right now). But don’t let that calm pace fool you—when she saw other dogs, she perked right up and enthusiastically pulled toward them. Clearly, the social spark is still there. She seemed a little camera shy—more “I’m not ready for my close-up yet” than anything else. That might just be her needing a little time to warm up and feel safe. Some dogs bloom slowly, and that doesn’t make them any less wonderful.Winnie is gentle, observant, and quietly hopeful. She may need a bit of medical follow-up and a little patience while she settles in—but she also looks like the kind of dog who will deeply bond once she knows she’s home.Winnie is available for adoption at Flagler Humane Society. If you’re looking for a sweet companion who just needs a soft place to land and a little time to open up, Winnie might be your girl.`Please, contact us if you have any questions.
