Story
Socialization: Quinn has had limited exposure to different environments and experiences. He will need gentle encouragement and positive reinforcement when introduced to new situations, people, and other animals. Patience and calm, consistent handling will help his build confidence over time. Training: Training is going very well! Quinn has learned his name and responds reliably to basic commands such as sit, come, walk, outside, no, and off. He’s also doing great with house manners—no counter surfing (at least when people are present!). Quinn walks nicely on a leash without pulling. He can still be a bit cautious in unfamiliar situations, especially when encountering things he hasn’t seen before, such as blow-up yard decorations moving in the wind. With gentle reassurance, he recovers quickly. Quinn is a quick learner who continues to gain confidence every day. Crate trained: Quinn is quiet and well-behaved while in his crate. He has been crated successfully when his foster is away and occasionally at night. However, he does not yet go into the crate on command—this is still a work in progress. With continued positive reinforcement, he’s likely to pick it up quickly. Leash trained: Walks nicely on a leash without pulling or running after cats, rabbits, squirrels.    Cautious of meeting new people at parks or on walks. Activity level/requirements: Quinn is an average setter activity and does require exercise.  We walk daily and play some ball in the yard.   Fence requirements: Due to Quinn's limited life experiences and fearful nature of new things, it is highly recommended that he has a yard with a 6' fence.  He has not tried to escape in foster, but he is tall and athletic.   Personality: Quinn has a sweet, loving personality and is a true gentle soul. He has shown no signs of aggression toward people or other dogs and enjoys calm companionship. Quinn is looking for a quiet, loving home where he can feel safe and cherished. He’ll be happiest with plenty of pets, a few favorite toys, and a cozy blanket to call his own. This affectionate boy is ready to share his heart with his forever family. Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. Foster comments:  Meet Quinn – The Gentle Soul Finding His Way Quinn is a stunning Irish Red and White Setter with a heart as soft as his coat. At 5 years old, Quinn is experiencing the real life of a dog for the very first time — learning what it means to be loved, to play, and to trust.Though he came from a unique situation where he wasn’t exposed to people or the typical joys of a dog’s world, Quinn is blossoming beautifully in his foster home. Once he feels safe, his shy demeanor gives way to a sweet, cuddly companion who loves gentle affection and quiet moments with his humans. Quinn has discovered the fun of balls, toys, and chew bones, and he enjoys sharing his space with the other two friendly dogs in his foster home. He hasn’t met any cats yet, but he shows little interest in chasing squirrels — a calm and thoughtful boy at heart.Children and their quick movements can be a bit scary for Quinn right now, but he’s learning that the world isn’t such a loud, scary place. His foster family is helping him g et used to new sounds and experiences at a pace that makes him comfortable. While Quinn doesn’t eagerly run to his crate just yet, he settles in quietly once inside and rests peacefully without a peep. He’s learning the routines of a happy home — no couches or beds for this gentleman, just his favorite soft blanket, which he loves to fluff and nestle into for long, cozy naps. Quinn is ready for a patient, loving adopter who can continue showing him the beautiful side of life — full of trust, safety, and gentle joy. With time and kindness, Quinn will reward his forever family with endless loyalty and quiet affection.  If you’re looking for a gentle soul to grow with, Quinn might just be your perfect match. Story
Socialization: Juliette is a very sweet girl and loves being with her people and her 3 resident male setter brothers. She loves to snuggle and wants lots of attention and affection from you once she has accepted you! She came to us as a very timid and "scared of everything" puppy, but she has made a lot of progress to accept her human fosters, her house surroundings, and her daily outside environment. An adopter will need to take things slow and understand that she will still need more work and the possibility of moving to a new environment may revert her temperament and the process may start all over again. Meeting new people is still a bit traumatizing for Juliette. She wants to hide and run away rather than trust the person. Vet appointments have been really tough for her meeting new people in a small room. At her first appointment she was very scared and tried to bite a technician that was attempting to take her temperature. This was very defensive reaction and wasn’t in an aggressive manner. She needed to be muzzled for the safety of the technicians. So moving to an entire new environment with an adopter will definitely take her some time to process and learn to trust her new people. She loves to play with her resident male setter brothers, but a barking dog while on a leash walk or from the neighbor’s dog is still a bit scary for Juliette. She will pull hard on the leash to run or wants to come inside to the safety of her home immediately. She has not been tested with cats, but she has discovered her "hunting skills" outside and has begun chasing birds, squirrels and chipmunks. She has starting "pointing" at wildlife too. Sometimes she is so occupied with hunting on a bathroom break that she forgets to potty and then will have an accident by the door after coming in. Training:  She is a young, excitable dog with lots of energy and we are still working on her manners to not jump up when she gets excited, wants attention or wants to go outside. She is very good at recall and coming when she is called to come, and has done well staying close to the door off leash with the use of an electronic beeper collar. We are working on "stay" and "down", but she "sits" on command and shakes "paw" really well. She is very smart, she learned to shake paw in less than one week! Crate trained:  Juliette is not a fan of the crate, probably because she prefers to stay with her humans. She does not usually go in willingly without a treat, and she cries and barks to be let out. She is young and inquisitive, and has been known to look for “trouble” when she gets bored, so we do crate her when we are not home. She chews and destroys anything left inside the crate such as a blanket or bed, but she likes her Benebone (nylonbone) which is virtually indestructible. Hopefully she will grow out of this as she gets older. Housebroken: Still working on it. With sufficient outings, she does fine. We let her out every 2 hours when we are home. She enjoys watching birds and chipmunks through the sliding doors and gets excited easily, if you don’t let her out she will have an accident at the door. When we leave the house, she is okay in her crate for 4-5 hours. Leash trained: Juliette does pull on the leash, but being a pocket size it is manageable. She gets excited to go on walks and is very alert surveying her surroundings on walks. She doesn’t necessarily try to go after birds or squirrels, but does more of a hunting weave back and forth and will circle around you while walking. And as stated earlier, a dog barking while walking past a house will put her on full alert to run away so I firm grip on leash handle is a must. Activity level/requirements:  Juliette is young and very energetic, she loves to run in the yard and engage in dog play with her brothers, hunt for birds and chipmunks and practice her hunting skills. Fence requirements:  Juliette loves to be outside to watch the birds, squirrels, deer, etc., so she would likely enjoy a fenced in yard, but it is not required. Currently she has learned her boundaries at our house (country woods acreage setting), so with the use of an electronic beeping collar she goes outside on supervised outings off leash and stays very close to the door in the yard. She can run and play with the resident dogs and perform her zoomies! I think she would do well with an invisible fence also, especially as she is still a bit cautious of her surroundings she doesn't want to wander away from her comfort zone. And she is very smart and a fast learner. Update 1-1-26, physical fence strongly preferred Health History:  Juliette is up to date on her vaccinations and is spayed. She is on monthly heartworm, flea/tick preventative Foster Comments:  Juliette is nervous in the car and salivates severely during the trip and will eventually throw up. We don't know if its motion sickness or simply being outside her comfort zone traveling to someplace new. Once arriving to the destination she seems to rebound quickly and is fine. We have tried front seat on a human lap, backseat on a blanket, and also back cargo area of an SUV all with same outcome.  Update 1-1-26: resident dog in home is preferred Additional video: https://youtu.be/-cFav0kDrQs?si=AIj7x9WrlPu9eHIL Foster Location: Slippery Rock, PA Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. Story
Socialization: Penny didn’t have an easy start in life. She spent her first year in a hoarding situation with no access to the outdoors, which has made her a timid, sensitive girl with high anxiety. She’s currently on medication to help her feel more comfortable as she learns that the world can be a safe place. New people can be scary at first, but with time and patience, she continues to make progress. Inside the home, Penny is a playful puppy who loves running around with other dogs and joyfully emptying the toy bin one toy at a time. She may “guard” her toys by watching other dogs closely, but she has never shown aggression, and this behavior is expected to fade as she settles into a secure routine. Penny mostly ignores cats and would likely do well with a dog-savvy cat. The outside world is still overwhelming for her, and she’s fearful of cars and loud noises. Leash walks and outdoor potty training are a work in progress, and she will need a patient, committed adopter who is willing to gently but consistently help her build confidence—even on the hard days when “tough love” is needed to assist desensitize her from her fears of the outside world. Training: Penny is a fast learner and learning sit very well. We are also trying to train her to use a bell at the door when she needs to go outside, but this isn’t necessary if the new home doesn’t have the same set up. We continue to teach her what we can while she’s in our home to prepare her for her new adopters. Inside she’s a treat monster outside she wants nothing to do with them, which will make training her outside a bit challenging. Penny is still working on house training. When she feels overwhelmed or scared outside, she may have accidents indoors, so continued outdoor potty training will be important. In her previous foster home she was comfortable stepping briefly onto the deck, and in her current foster home she is learning to use the grass as her potty spot and making gradual progress. During the transition to a new home, she may have a few stress-related accidents, but with patience, consistency, and a routine, this should improve as her confidence grows Crate trained: Penny is crate trained and has no issues in there. We have left her for up to 5-6 hours at most and not had any issues or accidents. Her crate has become her safe zone and we often leave the gate open and she'll just go in there to sleep Leash trained: Penny will need continued, consistent leash training. Because she is fearful of the outside world, she may try to bolt or pull hard to get away when on leash. We have been using a choke chain to train her to stop pulling as well as a harness. Leash training will be imperative to her outdoor training so that she’s not a flight risk. As of today, she is walked on 2 leashes, and I would expect the adopter to be as diligent until she has calmed down from the outside world. Activity level/requirements: She is a puppy… so prepare for the wild puppy energy. She will get into things, run around the living room, bounce off couches and dog beds. I'm sure she will someday calm down but right now, we're letting her live her best puppy life Fence requirements: A physical fence will be required; due to her ongoing and extreme anxiety I do not believe an invisible or lack of fence will be a good fit for her. Personality: She’s a happy dog inside, a drastic change from when she was originally surrendered to the rescue. However, outside is very stressful for her and she’ll shake nonstop until she goes back inside. She loves affection, playing with us, her toys, & going after our girl dog to initiate play. There are two videos attached to show her playful inside personality and her outside anxious run away from you personality. It's important to know there are two sides to this little pocket beast Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. Penny has a heart murmur that has not caused or worried any vets and is on fluoxetine to help curb her anxiety. I suspect with dedicated adopters that will help her with her anxiety, that this could eventually be reduced or discontinued. Foster comments: We absolutely adore Penny—she has a sweet, playful energy that’s especially remarkable given her past. The girls all surrendered in this litter have been on the smaller side, so think “pocket setter”. She would likely do well in a home with kids or cats, but we believe she would thrive most in a home with at least one other dog to help build her confidence. Penny is not a fan of car rides and tends to get motion sick, often drooling and becoming carsick during trips, so not a “road hound”. She originally came to the rescue as Indiana but now responds well to “Penny,” so a similar-sounding name would be best if her adopters choose to rename her. Penny is currently a higher-maintenance dog, particularly with outdoor time and walks; early on, her fear caused her to brace so hard against the pavement during a walk that her back nails wore down to the quick. With lots of patience, training, and understanding, she continues to make progress. Foster Location: Colorado Springs, CO Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home.
