Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Lila a very sweet 30 lb., Whippet/Terrier mix with an approximate DOB of 2/28/2021. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on core vaccines (Rabies/Distemper).  Lila was found as a stray in Minneapolis and seems to be a bit skittish and untrusting. The adopter will need to be patient as Lila gains trust and gets to know her routine. Lila can be laid back but also has energy that needs to be burnt off through walking exercise, stimulation with toys and play time. As she has been in her foster home her playful side is starting to come out. She enjoys playing with balls but does not understand how to drop and play fetch. She enjoys batting the ball with her paw and chasing it as it rolls down the hill outside. She also likes squeaky toys and plush toys so any small humans might have to share their stuffed animals if they are not stored out of Lila’s reach. With that said Lila is not comfortable around little kids so it is best to be adopted in a house with children over 12. Lila would also benefit from obedience and dog socialization classes in a safe environment as she needs to learn some rules and boundaries and how to be a better dog. Lila does well with other dogs with slow introductions and can be a bit in their face as she just wants to play with them, but also has a jealous side. Her current foster has three (3) dogs, and she gets along with them and wants to be part of the pack. Lila might be best in a home where the human works from home as she wants to be around as she gains trust and confidence. She can be very vocal when left alone or put in kennel so it is suggested that there should be no shared walls for her as well. Lila is house trained and does well when left unkenneled if she cannot reach the countertop, especially food. She has slept in a bed a night and loves being close to the fosters and then will not whine or bark. Lila would benefit from a fenced yard as she tends to want to run and escape her surroundings due to fear and uncertainty in situations and will run away if you try to catch her.    Although you would not know it as she seems fine, Lila has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia in both hips, so it is very important to keep her lean. Let Lila her set her exercise limits but also do not let her overdo it.  Swimming would be an excellent activity for her to do and shorter walks. She does not seem to have any pain and x-rays showed there was no arthritis at this time but the vet says that no intervention needed currently but she may need a salvage procedure in the future. Outside walks have gone well with other dogs, but she does have a prey drive and pulls on the leash. Her fosters are working with her on how to walk on a leash, but they do enjoy watching her smell and pounce as she is still a young dog. She could be the only dog or live with another non-dominant, easy going dog her size or bigger. Small dogs, cats, or other animals such as chinchillas, hamsters etc. are not recommended in the house with Lila. Lila would make a wonderful addition to the right warm and loving home.
