Rescue FAQs

We have been a non profit vegan organization since 1999 We rescue pregnant dogs, pit bulls, and other misunderstood breeds out of high kill shelters. SMAF also helps farm animals in need and takes pride in our outstanding humane education out-reach programs for students. Our goal is to open a humane education center in early 2020 to educate more people about the environmental and health aspects of eating a plant based diet.
SMAF serves Southern California, Las Vegas, and Southern UT

Additional adoption info

Adoption agreement: SMAF only adopts to responsible people who understand that this is a lifetime commitment.

SMAF charges $300 for puppies and $200 for adult dogs- Kittens are $200 and adult cats are $160.

House checks are required. All animals must be spayed and neutered. Large dogs must have a yard. We usually do not adopt to people renting unless it is a referral.

All cats must be indoors. We do not adopt to chain smokers or people with substance abuse issues for the animal's safety.

Fresh water and healthy food are a requirement. Grooming and training for dogs is required, unless the dog is a senior.

We do not give rabies vaccinations to seniors, because it can kill them. ID and micro-chip with our rescue number is required.

At no time can this animal be given away if the adoption does not work out. The animals MUST be returned to SMAF, so that we can re- adopt and do a proper house check.

We will take the animal back at anytime age. If the animal is injured or ill he or she MUST be taken to a veterinarian.

A dog can NEVER ride in a back of an open truck or be left on a balcony. If boarded the dog/cat must go to a reputable boarding facility or stay with a responsible family member/friend with a secure yard.

If the animal is killed or escapes, SMAF will be contacted immediately.

If these agreements are not met, we will contact our attorney and have the animal brought back into our care. If the animal is given away, it could result in a $1000 fine.
