Rescue Charlie's Friends

Why are we Here?
Rescue Charlie’s Friends was established in 2018 because we love dogs and want them to have the best life possible.

Many dogs lost their homes due to fire, floods or hurricanes. Others have been abandoned, neglected or abused.

Whatever the cause, our mission is to rescue them and match them with a loving forever family.

Most of our dogs come from high-kill shelters. The shelters do the best they can but due to limited facilities, dogs can’t stay long. Dogs must be moved out quickly or be put down.

These are Charlie’s Friends. These are the dogs that we focus on.

We stay in touch with shelters and volunteers in Texas, MS, VA, PA, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Puerto Rico and elsewhere.

We bring the dogs to Maine where Fosters care for them until they are adopted.

We rescue as many dogs as we can with our volunteers but we always need more help.

Our Goal

We do all we can to ensure that the dog and its new family are well matched. We want you to be happy with your new dog and of course we want your new dog to be happy and have a great life. Our adoption process may seem like a bit much but we feel it is necessary to achieve this goal.

Adoption Process

Please fill out our Adoption Application. You can fill it out on our website or if you prefer, you can print it off and send it by snail-mail.

We will contact you to schedule a home visit by one of our volunteers. This is just to ensure that the dog will not be in a dangerous situation. It is also a great time for you to get all your questions answered.

Please call your veterinarian and authorize them to release information to Rescue Charlie’s Friends.

Here is the type of information we will be looking for:

If you have any pets now (or in the past) do you keep them up to date on their vaccinations?
Do they appear to be well cared for and free from abuse or neglect?
Before you receive your new dog, we will want to ensure that any dogs you currently have are up to date on their vaccinations for Rabies, Parvo, Distemper and Heartworm Preventative.
If you are renting, you may need to get approval from your Landlord to bring a new pet into your home.

Once these steps are completed satisfactorily, you will be approved for adoption!
You will receive an email from us that will ask you to make a deposit.

All dogs received from out of state are quarantined for at least five days (or 48 hours, depending on age) before you receive them. This is to make sure that they are free from disease and it is also a State requirement.

Our adoption fee is $400.00. Yes, this seems like a lot but sometimes there are big and unexpected veterinary expenses and if there is a little left over it goes toward that. Remember, this is a not-for-profit organization composed of volunteers, none of whom are paid. Expenses not covered by the fee comes out of our personal pockets. That’s why donations are always welcome!

Here is what the fee covers:

Veterinary fees to get the dog approved for interstate transport (if applicable), including any necessary treatment for possible health issues.
Transportation from wherever to Maine
Vaccinations including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella, De-Worming
Neuter/Spay
Flea and Tick preventative (Frontline/Advantage)
Heartworm preventative
Microchip
And finally, we ask that as soon as possible, your new dog meet with all members of your household, including other pets, to ensure that any conflicts are recognized early so adjustments can be made. If for any reason, your new dog is not a good match, we ask that it be returned to us for placement in another home. Please do not surrender the dog to a shelter or advertise it, such as on Craigslist.
Before pick up of your new furry friend the balance needs to be paid and you will have to sign the adoption contract
