Additional adoption info

• We require that our dogs live primarily inside with their families and receive adequate exercise and attention.
• A prospective adopter's current pet(s) must be current on their veterinary care AND be spayed/neutered. The current pet(s) must also have a consistent history of annual vet care and be on heartworm preventative.
• All of our adopted pets are either already spayed & neutered, or if adopted prior to 4 months of age, MUST be spayed/neutered.
• Puppies will typically not be adopted to ONLY dog homes.
• Prospective adopters must be at least 21 years of age.
• Fence requirements vary depending on the individual's needs. Some may need a fence, while others may not. We do not, however, permit invisible fences due to some safety issues and the fact that they work by delivering a shock to the dog.

We may have additional adoption policies or requirements not listed here, as well as adoption requirements specific to each individual pet and their needs. These things will be discussed with you if you place an application for adoption with us.

Adoption Procedures

Prospective adopters will be required to complete the following Adoption Process:

• Adoption Application
• Reference/Vet Reference Check
• Home Visit (In Person or Virtually)
• Phone Interview to Review Application/Home Visit
• Phone Interview with Foster (This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have about personality before making a final decision about the adoption to make sure the dog is a good fit for your home, lifestyle and family.)


Upon adoption approval, adopters will be required to sign Adoption Agreement paperwork, agreeing to good quality care for their new pet. Paperwork will reflect the specific type of adoption, and state adoption requirements.

Tornado Alley Gentle Giants (TAGG) uses a 30 day trial period to ensure that both the family and the pet are both happy with the results of the adoption. We maintain contact with the adoptive family and offer support during this time to help with the pet's transition. If the adoption is unsuccessful during the trial period, the adoption fee will be returned.
