Rescue FAQs

At Lighthouse Animal Shelter, an all volunteer, 501(c)3 organization, we promote the welfare of animals at risk of euthanasia. We also work with the community to maximize efforts in reducing pet overpopulation. We rescue the majority of our dogs from high-intake shelters down south (the majority being from Kentucky, South Carolina & North Carolina) and get organize transport to our New Bedford shelter for adoption. We focus on last-call death row dogs. The cats in our care are all local strays or surrenders and are generally adults to seniors.
Mostly Bristol County in Massachusetts and surrounding areas as well as Rhode Island

Additional adoption info

We do not adopt on a first-come-first-serve basis, but rather by the best match between pet and family, although we will factor in the order of applications if there are equally good matches.
