Rescue FAQs

Second Chance Cavy Rescue is a non-profit guinea pig organization that rescues, rehabilitates, adopts and provides sanctuary for abandoned guinea pigs. We are foster based only so do not have a facility. We are currently doing Meet & Greets and adoptions at Petsmart: Bandera Pointe, Alamo Ranch and Stoneaok in San Antonio. From 11 am - 4 pm
Our focus is education before adoption and we can provide C&C cages with adoption
South Central Texas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Austin, Houston

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    At one of our Meet & Greets , learn about the requirements for owning and adopting guinea pig(s). We offer Meet and Greets at area Petsmart
  2. Submit Application
    Be specific on all pet ownership, especially guiena pigs.
  3. Approve Application
    Application is approved but photo of cage/habitat set up MUST be provided. Habitat size is crucial
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
    At the time of signing, the new owner should have had habitat approval, and have the necessary items, pellets, hay and water bottle.
  5. Pay Fee
    $55pair; $45 for single guinea pig We accept Venmo, cash, Cashapp, Zelle and Paypal
  6. Take the Pet Home
    Bring a safe transport system. Hardsided carrier suggested

Additional adoption info

No walkin adoptions at events- everyone must go through process. During Holidays, the person receiving the gift must be an active part of process and complete all paperwork
