Additional adoption info

The first step is completing an application. Once approved you will be put on a waiting list and contacted when a dog matching your requests becomes available. We first offer the dog for adoption to their foster family, then to approved applicants on file, and lastly to the public through online listings.

We require an application with a veterinary and three personal references. If you do not currently have a veterinarian because you do not currently own a pet, we will contact your personal references in place of a vet reference.

After you're matched with a dog, you complete our contract, and submit the appropriate adoption donation:

HavaHeart Rescue provides our adoption fee schedule for prospective adopters. Effective September 21, 2018, HavaHeart Rescue’s adoption fees are increasing. We are adjusting our fees due to the consistently high costs of veterinary care. The new fee structure applies to dogs that come into our care on or after September 21, 2018. Some things to note:
• HavaHeart Rescue is a registered 501(c)3 charity and 100% of money raised is spent on the pups we serve.
• All HavaHeart adoptable dogs are up to date on vaccinations, parasite free, have been spayed / neutered, and microchipped.
• If a dog’s age is unknown when they come into care, we use an estimate of age provided by a veterinarian. Determination of age for the purposes of the adoption fee is at the sole discretion of HavaHeart Rescue.
• Determination of the final adoption fee is at the sole discretion of HavaHeart Rescue.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
