Shelter FAQs

Paws and Claws Rescue and Resort is a no-kill 501(c)3 animal shelter and rescue, as well as a boarding facility in Hackensack, MN. Our mission is to save, lives, educate youth, and complete families. We Were founded in 2017 and have had over 2300 adoptions to date.
We offer dog and cat adoption, as well as boarding and daycare services by appointment. Paws and Claws also as an onsite groomer.
Serving Minnesota's Leech Lake region including Crow Wing, Cass Lake, Hubbard, Beltrami counties.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Find an animal that you fall in love with! Ensure that you've considered the type of pet (breed, age) and your lifestyle.
  2. Submit Application
    1. Fill out our Adoption Questionnaire by going to our website. Reference checks will be completed.
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. Schedule a meet and greet with pet during shelter business hours.
  4. Approve Application
    1. Application will be reviewed and approved by staff.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Adoption contract will be reviewed with an adoption specialist and signed.
  6. Pay Fee
    1. Pay/Donate adoption fee.
  7. Take the Pet Home
    1. Take you new pet home! We always recommended reading through our behavior handouts and setting up an appointment with your vet right away.
