Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary's adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Contact us about the cat you are interested in. We provide a questionnaire for further discussion.

2.

Interview

We discuss your application and the cat's details to see if you are a good match for each other. We also answer any questions you may have.

3.

Meet the Pet

We ask you to visit the sanctuary or one of our foster homes so you can meet your cat. We might complete this using a Zoom chat.

4.

Sign Adoption Contract

Many adoptions begin with a foster contract. You will agree to care for the cat for a fixed period and we will check in with you regularly.

5.

Pay Fee

To help us cover our costs during the adoption process we may ask adopters for a donation. This will be discussed during the interview.

6.

Take the Pet Home

We make arrangements to have you pick up your new friend and discuss the decompression/adjustment plan.

7.

Home Check

Periodic check-ins to see how things are going. We will help to resolve any adjustment issues and if necessary, the cat may be returned.

Additional adoption info

If you see a cat that you are interested in adopting, please email us at ivywoods.org@gmail.com to ask about the adoption process. Many adoptions are considered "Foster to Adopt" meaning you will agree to care for the kitty for a fixed period to see if they are a good match for your home, and we will check in periodically to see how things are going and to offer support as needed.

Almost all of our adoptable cats are companion cats and MUST be adopted as a new family member to live with you INSIDE of your home.

If you feel you have any questions not answered here, please contact us at ivywoods.org@gmail.com

About Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary

Ivy Woods Feline Sanctuary is a safe haven for more than 80 feral, stray, and displaced cats. We are an all volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

Our sanctuary's primary mission is to be a forever home for non-adoptable cats. The majority of our cats come from feral colonies or other such stray situations. They are under-socialized and/or fearful of humans and as such would not do well as a family pet.

However a few of our kitties can be very social. These more friendly cats seem to have been someone's family cat and ended up displaced through no fault of their own. In these cases Ivy Woods will work to get them out of our sanctuary and back into a loving home. This is great for the cat while it also helps to conserve our sanctuary resources.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
