Rescue FAQs

Strays of Hope is a 508(c)(1)(A) religious nonprofit animal sanctuary based in Keaau, Hawaiʻi. We are a spiritually grounded rescue devoted to the belief that every animal is a sacred soul deserving of love, healing, and a second chance. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned or at-risk animals while offering spiritual stewardship, compassionate care, and a safe haven for both short-term guests and lifelong sanctuary residents. Every adoption at Strays of Hope is more than a placement — it’s a blessing, a bond, and a promise. We believe in heart-led matchmaking, trauma-informed rehabilitation, and community-rooted outreach. Whether you're here to adopt, volunteer, or simply share in our mission, you're part of a larger story of hope, healing, and second chances.

Additional adoption info

At Strays of Hope, our adoption process is centered around compassion, responsible stewardship, and finding the perfect match between animals and their forever families. As a 508(c)(1)(A) religious nonprofit animal sanctuary, we view each adoption as a sacred commitment.

All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and spiritually blessed before going to their new homes. Adopters complete an application, participate in a brief interview (virtual or in-person), and may be asked for a home check depending on the animal's needs. We offer support throughout the transition and always welcome our animals back if circumstances change.

Some adoptions may include ongoing spiritual guidance for the animal’s care, and we encourage adopters to stay connected through our community of sacred stewards.
