Rescue FAQs

At PORT, our mission is to foster a compassionate and engaged community dedicated to preventing animals from entering the shelter system, expediting the journey of animals through our care, and serving as the ultimate pet resource center. We are committed to creating a network of support that includes education, outreach, and collaboration with local partners to ensure every pet receives the love, care, and home they deserve. We strive to build a future where every animal is valued and cherished. Our foster based rescue has saved over 350 animals in our first year and look forward to what we can accomplish in the years to come.
Primarily Ohio. Dayton and Cincinnati are our top cities. We transfer in from Indiana and Kentucky through partnerships with select shelters to assist in their live outcome rates. We also accept transfers from Dogs Playing for Life in Florida through their Triple E Program and occasionally from a Bulldog rescue in Texas when they are struggling with space.

Additional adoption info

We try to make the adoption process as smooth, convenient and easy as possible. We treat each animal as an individual and take that into account when approving applications. While one dog may require a 6ft privacy fenced in yard, another may be just as happy going on walks and living in an apartment. We consider the home set up and lifestyle of Adopters in regard to the pet they are interested in more than other barriers.
