Associated Humane Societies South

Originally founded in 1891, our shelter has served as a safe haven for thousands of stray, unwanted, abused, abandoned, and sick animals throughout South Jersey. Today, as Associated Humane Societies South, we continue that mission as part of New Jersey’s largest animal sheltering system. Associated Humane Societies (AHS) rescues stray and homeless animals—both domestic pets and wildlife—providing compassionate care and sanctuary until they can find loving homes. As a community-based organization, we also offer low-cost veterinary services and humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship across the state. For over a century, AHS has stood as a refuge for abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, the organization operates shelters in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls—and now, South Jersey’s location in Vineland. The Forked River facility is also home to Popcorn Park, a sanctuary established in 1977 for abandoned, injured, exploited, or elderly wildlife, exotics, farm animals, and birds. AHS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, proud to be devoted to the thousands of animals who enter our doors each year in search of a better life.
