The Animal Shelter is Kent County's animal control authority and is an excellent source of information about animal care, animal control regulations, and other animal-related community resources. KCAS staff can also answer your questions about exotic pets, rabies in non-domestic animals, or refer you to agencies that deal with livestock, wild animals, and breeding. Adoption steps
- Visit the Facility and Find a PetThe public are welcome to visit our current animals up for adoption during our visitng hours.
- Submit ApplicationIs there a pet you are interested in visiting with? Please fill out an application; the application does not obligate you to any commitments
- Approve ApplicationOnce preapproved, you may visit one or more of our adoptable pets.
- Meet the PetVisit with our dogs in the meet and greet rooms. The cats are in our wonderful HABICAT.
- Sign Adoption ContractYou love the pet & want them to be apart of your family? Lets do this! We'll print/sign the contract, & pet you know when they can go home!
- Pay FeeAs of 4/1/2019, all dog adoptions are $130, plus a dog licence. Adult cats 4mos+ are $5, kittens under 3mos are $40.

Adopting an animal from the Kent County Animal Shelter is a rewarding experience! Some animals may be ready to go home with you the day of adoption and others may need to stay a few days to allow us time to get them spayed or neutered. Our skilled counselors are here to help guide you through the adoption process.
