The Lewis County Animal Shelter houses stray, homeless and unwanted animals. The Shelter strives to find all adoptable pets a lifetime home and promote responsible pet ownership through education and outreaches.

The Shelter does offer a disposal service of deceased cats and dogs for a small fee. The shelter will not pick-up deceased animals.

The 5000 sq. ft. Animal Shelter facility was constructed in 1980 and provides indoor/outdoor kennels for dogs and cages for cats, a quarantine area and a surgery room. A stable/corral area (for large animals and livestock) was constructed in 1991. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
