Rescue FAQs

Our Mission: Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue is a non-profit referral organization dedicated to placing unwanted purebred dogs into suitable homes, and preventing unwanted purebreds from overloading the shelter system. Towards attaining those goals, we promote responsible dog ownership by educating the public in the selection, care and training of dogs. Founded as a non-political organization in 1987, SPDR works cooperatively with breeders, animal shelters, breed clubs, and individuals to accomplish SPDR's purpose.

Additional adoption info

A person who wants to adopt through SPDR fills out an Adoption Application and carefully reviews SPDR’s Terms of Adoption. The application and a $5.00, nonrefundable processing fee are then mailed to SPDR’s post office box. The paperwork will be sent from the post office box to the appropriate breed rep(s). The processing fee helps to cover the immediate costs of handling your paperwork. However, if we are successful in helping find a dog for you, we ask that you make a further, tax-deductible donation. The usual adoption donation is in the $50-$200 range. Your breed rep may discuss a specific amount with you, based on the dog you adopt. SPDR is a registered Washington State charity and a 501© 3 organization, and depends on such donations to continue operating. Our Board members and breed reps are volunteers, and receive no compensation for the time they spend helping you find a dog.
