Humane Society of Rome

Hi, thanks for stopping by! We are a non-profit shelter located in Rome, New York. We have been serving the needs of the Mohawk Valley and surrounding CNY communities since 1956.
We provide shelter, food, care and medical attention if needed for cats and dogs on a year round basis. A goal of our shelter is to find every cat and dog that comes to us a good home. We work very hard to achieve that goal. We have had some of our animals with us for over a year before we finally found them a family. All of the animals that leave our shelter are spayed/neutered, up to date on their shots, wormed, treated for fleas, and microchipped.

Besides helping to find good homes for our cats and dogs, we also provide a number of other services. We do Humane Education throughout the community. If your school or organization would like to schedule an appointment, please call 315-336-7070. Our shelter offers a Sponsorship Program for people who may not be able to adopt but are interested in helping our animals. You can always ask for our "Wish List" also and donate items from that for the animals. All donations are greatly appreciated and really help us to continue our work on a year round basis. Our volunteers (we are always looking for new ones) work closely with staff in a number of areas. Some volunteers act as Foster Parents for those animals that need special attention or some extra TLC.
The Humane Society of Rome welcomes all inquiries and visitors. Please come visit our furry friends or call us if you have questions. We look forward to serving you. Thanks.

Additional adoption info

We sincerely hope that we can be of service to you. Anyone interested in adopting a cat or dog must first fill out a screening application.

Our application is designed to help us determine if the adoption is in yours and the animal’s best interest and to place our animals into permanent responsible homes. We want to assist you in finding the pet most compatible with your lifestyle. Because the animal’s welfare must be our foremost consideration, HSR reserves the right to deny any adoption. Staff will review your application to ensure that the animal is going to a good home and that it is also the "right" animal for you. We want each adoption to be a good match. If for whatever reason it doesn't work out, please bring the animals back to us.
Visit our website for more information on adopting.
