C.A.R.E. group of Ohio, Inc. (companion animal rescue effort)

We started off by volunteering with area groups, spanned off on our own and started a group with a board of experienced directors in business. We became a non-profit 501c3 incorporated group in 2004. We are fairly small and all volunteer. We do have three foster homes, are TOO full and do need fosters! We have rescued both cats and dogs and pull from our area pounds, and network with other facilities. We also take in owner surrenders. We totally "vet" the animals and alter them. Our application and adoption process consists of an application which must be approved, then home checks, then adoption. We will interview a prospective family. We do a trial basis, if we are confident of the family with the animal and animal is a good fit the adoption becomes final. We do trouble shooting for behavior problems and strongly advise trainers/behaviorists. We also have a couple of specific ones we work with to re-home an animal. We keep in contact with adoptive family and check periodically. We have a stringent return policy which requires animals must come back to us if the adoption is unsuccessful. We will show our animals at area stores that cater to animals. We have also shown in area parks. We help transport. We've adopted out as far as Arizona. We do rescue because of our love and compassion for the animals, and they need us. Our motto comes directly from The Holy Bible in Genesis 1:28 "God has given us dominion over the animals." This means we have the responsibility to take care of them. This is the toughest job we have ever done, but the look and kisses from a newly rescued animal when they are finally HOME, is priceless! We have taken in special needs animals, including epileptic, diabetic, hyperactive, injured, etc... We accept ANY and ALL donations, and are in great need of them, especially money for medications and vet bills. Volunteer fosters are DESPERATELY needed. In addition, we promote an educational agenda among area groups and schools regarding responsible pet ownership, overpopulation, and spay/neuter programs.

Additional adoption info

We take applications, they have to be approved. We interview applicants by the phone, e-mail, or in person. We are understanding of individual circumstances. We have an adoption agreement/contract,(legally binding). All animals are altered either prior to adoption, or contracted for following adoption. An adoption donation is requested in varying amounts which barely covers our expenses for shots, vet work, spay/neuter, etc... Our agreement specifies a return policy in the event of unsuccessful follow through on responsible efforts in training, behavior problems, working with behaviorists and trainers.
