Our Adoption Policies

Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue restricts adoptions to residences of the Los Angeles, CA area only. We do not ship dogs nor do we do any type of long distance adoptions**. We do not adopt to persons under 21 years of age. We do not adopt out dogs as surprise gifts. As a general rule we do not adopt the smaller dogs out to family with small children (under 8) unless we know the dog's history as being good with kids. We require prospective adopters meet both us and the dog, fill out an application and be interviewed. Prospective adopters are generally met at our weekly pet adoption fairs. Adoptions are not done a first come first serve basis. Applications are taken during the week as well as all day on our adoption days and applicants are selected based upon the best match of the particular dog's temperament and needs. If an applicant is approved we generally will require a home check so we can ensure the dog's safety. If you are coming from a distance to see the dogs, please be sure we have received an application in advance, we may also require photos of fencing etc. For applicants that are renters, we require proof that the adoption will be in compliance with their rental agreement. Please note that these dogs are not for sale and the decision of where to place them is solely the responsibility of Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue. These dogs do not need "rescuing", they have already been rescued and are safe in foster homes until a properly matched permanent home can be found. We reserve the right to refuse placement of our dogs to any individual who does not meet our criteria. We also reserve the right to keep our reasons for refusal confidential within our organization. The welfare of our rescue dogs is our top priority.

There is an adoption donation fee which ranges from $250-$300 (although seniors and special needs pets may be adopted at a reduced fee). The adoption fee must be paid via check or cash, we do not accept credit cards. The adoption fee is used to help offset some of the cost needed to operate our rescue organization. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, vet checked, vaccinated and dewormed prior to placement. There is a grace period of two weeks (one week for puppies under 4 months) for refund of the adoption fee if the animal should need to be returned to us. We have an adoption contract which requires you to contact Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue if at anytime you should no longer be able to keep your pet. Pets adopted through Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue can not be sold, traded, given away or disposed of in any way. Although all of our animals are thoroughly evaluated, we cannot guarantee their health or temperament.

PLEASE NOTE: Filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee an adoption. We have thoroughly evaluated all of the animals in our care, and try very hard to match the right pet to the right person and situation. We reserve the right not to adopt.

About Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue

Who We Are

Miniature Schnauzers & Friends Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue organization based in the Los Angeles South Bay area. We are a small group of rescuers who have been actively rescuing animals in our community for nearly a decade. We do not have a shelter, our volunteers provide foster care for the dogs until we find them loving permanent homes. We are a small organization and handle a very limited number of dogs... while we know we aren't making even the slighest dent in the number of homeless dogs, we know we are make all the difference to the ones that we are able to save. Most of the dogs we get come from the LA area shelters but we also sometimes take in owner surrenders as space permits. We rescue primarily Miniature Schnauzers but usually will also have some other types of dogs available. Please note that we are not a source to get purebred puppies as purebred puppies in rescue are very rare.

Our Mission

In the greater Los Angeles County shelters alone an average of 475 pets are euthanized daily. There just aren't enough homes for them all. Our mission is to help provide animals a second chance to have a happy life and to help reduce pet overpopulation. We save dogs in need and provide them with proper care and foster homes while they await adoption. We evaluate the dogs the best we can in order to place them into loving homes that best suits their needs as well as potential adopters needs. We also try to educate the public on how to be responsible pet owners and the on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. The only real solution to pet overpopulation is through spaying and neutering pets. And please remember before you adopt a pet, the committment needs to be for the lifetime of the pet... if you can't make that type of commitment, please rethink getting a pet. The shelters are full of animals there were once adopted or purchased by people who may have had the best intentions at that time but just didn't give enough thought about it being a 12-18 year commitment.
