North Central is one of the largest city shelters, with 246 kennels. The City of Los Angeles Animal Services operates six animal shelters and has field staff serving the community. The shelters are award winning facilities that have been built within the past 10-15 years. LA Animal Services is one of the largest municipal shelter systems in the U.S., serving approximately 60,000 animals annually and responding to 20,000 emergency calls each year involving animals or people in danger. Our mission is to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of animals and people.
You can adopt any pet from any shelter. To bring in found pets, this location serves the following areas: Angelino Heights, Arts District, Atwater Village, Beachwood Canyon, Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Cypress Park, Downtown Los Angeles, Eagle Rock, East Hollywood, Echo Park, El Sereno, Elysian Heights, Elysian Park, Elysian Valley, Franklin Hills, Garvanza, Glassell Park, Griffith Park, Hancock Park, Hermon, Highland Park, Historic Filipino Town, Hollywood, Hollywood Heights, Larchmont, Lincoln Heights, Little Tokyo, Los Feliz, MacArthur Park-Westlake, Melrose Hill, Montecito Heights, Monterey Hills, Mt. Additional adoption info

The six LA Animal Services Centers are open without appointments on Tuesdays through Fridays from 8am - 5pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm. Centers are closed Mondays and City-observed holidays.

Adoption fees include vaccinations, spaying or neutering surgery, microchipping for dogs, cats and rabbits; and for City of LA residents, the first year license fee for dogs.

A government-issued identification (driver's license, state ID, passport) with your name and photo is required to adopt a pet.

LA Animal Services Centers accept payment by cash, check, or credit card (name on credit card must match the name on the photo identification).
