Rescue FAQs

We are a volunteer-run, nonprofit, registered charity small-animal shelter. We rescue mostly cats but we also have some rabbits and have taken other small animals in need. Our sole criteria is need. We value the homely, elderly and ill animals as much as the attractive, young, healthy ones. When they have no other hope, we will do our best to make room for them. We try to find homes for all of them but those who are unadoptable will have a place at our shelter or in a foster home for life. We alter all cats and kittens before we adopt them out. We do it purely for the love of the animals. Nobody who works at Katie's Place receives any kind of remuneration and the only funding we receive is from our fund raisers, donors, and (hopefully) some grants.
We serve primarily the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows but we have also provided assistance to people in neighbouring communities in extraordinary circumstances and we liaise closely with other rescue groups.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fee is $120 for cats and kittens. A pair of cats can be adopted for $200 total. Special needs animals can be adopted to the right home by donation. Our adoption fee covers the cost of spay/neuter, tattoo or microchip, first inoculations, and FIV/FeLV testing for adult cats. We have a pre-adopt form to complete that will help us match the right animal to the right home. We have an adoption contract that specifies the conditions we ask adopters to guarantee pets from our shelter (ie. proper care such as food, water and veterinary care when needed, etc). We ask to meet you and for you to meet the animal. We don't send them out-of-province to long distance adopters. We do an extensive interview process to ensure a good match.
