Rescue FAQs

Harmony Haven, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality care for homeless cats and dogs, finding suitable adoptive placements for those animals who are healthy and socialized, and educating the community about responsible pet guardianship. Harmony Haven is the ONLY no kill shelter in Vigo County. We get no funding from the city or county. All operations and animal care is funded strictly by kind donations from people like you. Harmony Haven is modeled after other privately funded no kill cat and dog sanctuaries in the U.S. No kill sanctuaries offer an alternative to more traditional shelters, which kill approximately 30,000 cats and dogs every day, seven days a week. Currently, there are more than 700 sanctuaries nationwide, one dating as far back as 1907. Animals are cared for by volunteers and a dedicated staff, including a veterinarian. All animals brought to Harmony Haven will be spayed or neutered, and will be available for adoption into approved homes. By providing a safe, happy home for animals that would otherwise be left to suffer a lonely death, Harmony Haven will provide a humane alternative for the increasing number of stray cats and dogs.
Terre Haute and surrounding areas. We do out of area adoptions, please email for details.

Additional adoption info

We do adopt out of the area to approved families. If you are interested in adopting a dog or a cat, please contact us via email. You will be required to fill out an adoption application. ALL animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, no exceptions. We have many wonderful animals available for adoption and will do our best as volunteers to find you a wonderful companion that is suitable for your family, as well as finding a family suitable for one of our homeless pets. We welcome any questions you may have about a particular animal or animal related questions.

Working with other organizations:
Harmony Haven works with other reputable rescue organizations to help find the animals homes. We do this because if we can create open space by adopting or utilizing rescue for an animal, that is another space that a very needy animal can have and be safe. If you are a rescue organization and would like to help our shelter, please feel free to email us for details. Together we can make a difference!
