Who We Are
Hello and Welcome to Kelly's Kitten Rescue!
We are happy that you stopped by to check us out. To tell you a little bit about who we are. I am a 27 year old that works during the day at a local Engineering company in Kansas City, MO. I love animals of any size shape or color. I am a bigger cat lover though! I grew up with a menagerie of pets from pet rabbits that we would breed and sell to people for pets, mice, hamsters, girbles, fish, one wild robin that we raised from a hatchling that fell out of our tree in our front yard from a wind storm that went threw, dogs, one bearded dragon (lizard), 3 leopard spotted gecko’s, numerous turtles that we would find on the streets we would bring them home and let them go in the back yard or out in a field that was close to our house, frogs that would show up in our garden pond, (I guess you could call them a pet, but they would leave when it was time for them to hibernate.). I also did allot of volunteer work with a few of the local shelters for quite a while from walking the dogs, cleaning cages, and playing with the animals that had no homes. I also volunteered at the local Nature Center helping with the animals and breeding rats for the wild animals that could no longer live in the wild for one reason or another so they would have food. That is why the rescue was started out of my love for animals and thoughts that all animals no matter what they deserved better than being behind bars just waiting to see if they are going to live and find a home or waiting to meet their doom and going to the "Rainbow Bridge" to wait for someone to come and collect them after they are gone from our world. My mom is the other person that runs the rescue with me. She is a retired registered nurse that worked at a local hospital for quite a while and now is retired. She also shares the love of animals and we would not be doing rescues if I did not have a mother like the one that I have that loves animals and wants to share our home with some of the ones that have no home or have a place to stay until they do find homes of their own. She also grew up with animals mainly rabbits, hamsters, & dogs but she has always liked all animals except snakes! I don't know of any other mother that would be so understanding when her child would bring home all sorts of wild animals as well as non-wild animals and ask if we could keep them for a while and then either release them back in the wild or find another suitable home for them. We have rescued several cats and a few dogs from the pound who have gone over the Rainbow Bridge and are waiting till their humans come and find them. That is another reason we started the rescue we figured we could help out by getting them off of the streets and in a healthy environment to find homes when they are ready. Since most of them get overlooked when they are behind bars scared out of their minds and don't act like they would be a loving fun animal we get them into our home to show people that they do have a personality all of their own!
We are a home based operation, non-profit, no-kill foster home, and all costs for the animals that we take care of come out of our pockets or from donations. We raise the kittens in a family/home environment; this means we do not use cages for any of the kittens. We started the rescue to help all the kittens that their mother has either ran away or has been killed and they don't have a clean warm forever home to call their own! We have taken in litters of kittens and mother cats in the past. We have worked with other rescue groups to find kittens homes. We have also done volunteer work in local animal shelters. We take abandoned mother cats that are expecting and find forever homes for them and their babies when they are ready at about 8 week of age and the mother gets a home as soon as she is healed up from being spayed after the kittens are weaned from her. We also take in bottle babies (under 3 weeks of age). We have only had a few of the bottle babies to take care of and have had a 100% success rate with them. We teach the babies good socialization skills and house manners along with the mother cat if she is not used to being a house cat. The kittens are raised with other cat friends and a standard daschound who weighs 35 lbs that thinks he is a cat so they will be well socialized with different animals.
Please keep in mind when you adopt ONE kitten/cat you are actually saving the lives of TWO animals. The ONE you are adopting and the ONE that will be allowed to come into the rescue when that space is opened up from the one being adopted.
PLACING UNWANTED, ABANDONED KITTENS IN LOVING HOMES WITH RESPOSIBLE, LOVING, & CARING PEOPLE IS OUR MISSION!
