Indianapolis Animal Care Services is the state's largest animal shelter with an average annual intake of 8,000 animals. In addition to being a lost and found resource, the shelter has wonderful animals for adoption, a successful volunteer program, and is the enforcement agency for animal-related laws in the city of Indianapolis/Marion County.
Stray and owner surrender animals are accepted from Indianapolis/Marion County, IN. Adoptions are available for anyone regardless of where they live.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    Walkup Adoptions Daily from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  2. Sign Adoption Contract
  3. Pay Fee

Additional adoption info

Adoptions are available on a walk-in basis seven days a week from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with dog showings ending at 6:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Adoptions are completed on a first-come, first-served basis, and animals cannot be placed on hold. Our adoption team will help you meet available pets and find one that may be a good fit for your household. The adoption fee is $60, and adopted pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before leaving our care.
