KY Russell Rescue/ Multi-Breed Rescue

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made." - Roger Caras

We do it for the dogs...

Russell Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit national network of volunteers dedicated to placing unwanted or abandoned Jack Russells into permanent homes.

The goal of Russell Rescue, Inc. is to have this unique hunting terrier be in the protective care of those who thoroughly understand this dog. This is a very unique dog that arrives in any life with a special set of needs not suited to everyone. They get into trouble. If they cannot find trouble, they create it. If bored, they can apply their extreme intelligence in destructive ways. They require an educated owner and a loving caretaker willing to provide what this dog needs to be happy and safe. Most of life with them involves protecting them from themselves and their own demise. They rarely lack courage and don't take to abuse, even accidental abuse...

CLICK HERE FOR INFORMATION ON REHOMING YOUR DOG

*Did you get your dog from a breeder? If so, have you contacted the breeder?*
Good breeders will either take their dog back or assist you in re-homing your dog. It is usually a faster avenue than the rescue program. Please do this before contacting a Rescue representative. If not, please contact the representative that handles your state.

*How long does it take for you to find a new home for my dog?*
Please remember that it has to be the right home for your dog. There is no definitive answer. It could be a week; it could take several months. The new home must fit the needs of your JRT. We know that you want the best home for your JRT and this can take time.

*What are your requirements for my dog to come into your rescue program? *
As a general rule, your JRT must be spayed or neutered, up to date on its shots and current on its heartworm. The best course of action is to contact the representative in your state.

NOTE: WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING DOGS INTO FOSTER AT THIS TIME

*My dog bit someone - I need to find another home.* We are sorry but we do not accept biting or aggressive dogs into our rescue program. However, we will be happy to speak with you about suggestions and provide you with possible options, such as our direct owner referral service and/or assist you in finding a trainer in your area.

*Where are you located? I am moving in a week and I can't take my dog. *
We are a rescue adoption program. We do not have a facility, and have very limited foster care available. As a general rule, you will need to keep your dog until a suitable home is found. We are unable to assist you with such short notice.

KY Russell Rescue/Multi-Breed Rescue is made up of a small group of volunteers dedicated to saving unwanted or abandoned Jack Russell Terriers and other dogs and placing them into permanent homes.

We are all volunteers doing the best that we can with the limited funds and resources available to us. We give the potential adopter as much information as we can, including all vet records, but we normally do not know the history of the dogs, as they are strays at the pound. Very rarely do we have owner releases. Most dogs in our program were minutes away from being put to sleep so the pound could make space for more homeless dogs...

This listing and its administrator are not responsible and/or liable for the outcome of any adoption made through these listings as we are only providing information. This listing and its administrator are also not responsible and are held harmless for the accuracy and reliability of the information provided within these listings. Owners, foster homes and adopters bear the full responsibility and liability for any dog listed.

Rescue FAQs

Kentucky Russell Rescue/Multi-Breed Rescue serves greater Metro Louisville (Kentucky), and Southern Indiana, as well as surrounding areas whenever possible.

We are happy to adopt out-of-state to approved adopters. We need volunteers/foster homes throughout KY/IN and surrounding areas!(see below!)

It is a shame to say but our beloved breed can be difficult and many people seek to rid themselves of their terriers quickly. Our volunteers look to find the terriers in our program new homes and give them a chance at a new life but this is a difficult task with the staggering amount of terriers in shelters or being released by owners. Our volunteers work, have families, their own dogs and other animals and yes, even take an occasional vacation. We may not have the instant answer or solution you want, but if you have patience and your Jack Russell is eligible for our program, we can help you.

Additional adoption info

The following steps should help you (and us) determine if there is a match between you and one of our dogs in Rescue. All applicants are thoroughly screened and must meet certain qualifications before being referred for a dog. Approval is based upon the understanding and acceptance of the nature of the dog, the owner's lifestyle, and their ability to house the dog properly.

We are an all-volunteer organization, and it takes many hours to review an application and complete an adoption. Please do not submit this application if you are not serious about working with Ky Russell Rescue/RussellRescue, Inc.; it takes away precious time we could be spending helping place dogs in homes with serious adopters.

Dogs in Rescue are in great need of proper homes, and while they may need a little special handling, adopting an adult dog in need can be much more rewarding than starting with a new puppy. Please review the following important points regarding the adoption of a Rescue dog...

NOTE:

*All dogs in an adopter's household must be up-to-date on immunizations, and be spayed/neutered. We do not place rescue dogs in homes with unaltered (unspayed/unneutered) dogs.

* We DO check vet & landlord references, 100% of the time.

* We ONLY place dogs in homes with proper containment (fence, kennel, etc.) or with an owner who agrees to take a dog out on a leash 100% of the time.

*By submitting this application, you are making a formal request to adopt a dog from Ky Russell Rescue/Multi-Breed Rescue. Please do not fill out this application if you are not serious about working with Ky Russell Rescue/Multi-Breed Rescue.

*If a dog is matched to your application and placed in your home, you must agree to keep the terrier for at least 3 weeks (to allow time for the dog and you to acclimate with each other).

*Every applicant must first fill out an adoption form (see below).

*All rescue dogs must have containment (fence, kennel).

*We generally do not place dogs in homes where there are children under six years of age.

*We have few dogs that are good with cats.

*We rarely place Jack Russell Terriers of the same sex together in one home (to reduce the risk of fighting).

*We do not suggest placing dogs where the dog must remain at home alone for extended periods of time.

*All applicants are thoroughly screened and must meet certain qualifications before being referred for a dog.

*Compatible dogs may not be immediately available; your patience is appreciated.

*Filling out an application does not guarantee that we will place a dog with you.

*An adoption fee to KY Russell Rescue/Multi-Breed Rescue is required to adopt a dog, no exceptions!

*Every dog we place is up-to-date on all vaccines, heartworm tested, tested/treated for intestinal parasites, and spayed/neutered.

*The dogs themselves are FREE!...Adoption fees are used solely to cover the expense of services provided.
