Rescue FAQs

Bright Futures Farm is a Sanctuary and Adoption Program for Horses. Since we are located in a very rural setting, there are also many abandoned cats, kittens, dogs and pups that somehow find their way to our farm. Therefore, at times, we will also have dogs, cats, kittens and/or puppies for adoption. We are a registered 501c3 charity. We were established in 2000. Our primary focus is off the track Thoroughbreds...horses that can no longer race due to disinterest or injury. Our dedication has grown to include older horses that are discarded after their "useful years" are over...including stallions. Older stallions most often have nowhere to go, as gelding them is an immeasurable health risk. Most people are either uncomfortable handling a stallion, or don't have the facilities to house one. We currently care for three older stallions, Shaiman, 33 yo Arabian, Fencer, 27+ yo Morgan, and Sweet Lips, ~30 yo Morgan. Those horses that are adoptable will be placed into carefully screened homes and monitored regularly. Senior horses will be provided with an appropriate elder care program specific to that horses' needs. Our Seniors are: Hy Wynne Shaiman, 33 yo Arabian stallion Accountability (Tiny), 32 yo Standardbred mare Sweet Lips, ~30 yo Morgan stallion Gordy, 30 yo Thoroughbred gelding Fencer, 27+ yo Morgan stallion Ziezo, 28 yo Gelderlander gelding Shifter, 26 yo Thoroughbred gelding Fast Market (Markie) 23 yo Thoroughbred gelding Our program for cats and dogs, kittens and puppies follows the same guidelines as our equine program.
We adopt throughout Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. We also adopt in parts of New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, Michigan, Kansas and Florida.

Additional adoption info

Adoption through Bright Futures Farm is an application process. All of the animals we place into homes are members of our family. We want to make sure they will also be a member of your family and be in a home where the family has time to spend with them each and every day.

What we will need: your application, reference forms from your vet and farrier, photos of your farm/boarding facility.

All forms are available on our web site, www.brightfuturesfarm.org. You can also contact us by phone or email and we will answer any questions you have.
