Shelter FAQs

The Humane Society is a nonprofit corporation. We are governed by a Board of Directors who are volunteers from the community, dedicated to animal welfare. We are committed to the general welfare, sheltering and placement of animals, prevention of cruelty to animals, animal overpopulation, and education concerning humane treatment of all living creatures. The Society is not controlled or funded by any state-wide or national organization.
For intake we only take in dogs from Ross County.

Additional adoption info

We do require all pets in the home be spayed or neutered at adoption. If not we generally will offer to help get them spayed or neutered or offer spots on our low cost clinic. Pets must be up to date on vaccines and live inside.

Our adoption process starts by filling out an application online at https://rosscountyhumanesociety.org/adoption-application/ or in person at 2308 Lick Run Rd. Chillcothe, OH. We will check vet reference and landlord if applicable. You then watch your email for a response. Next you come into the shelter and meet the dog or dogs you are interested in. From there you can adopt the dog or use our 5 day Foster-to-adopt program (if you live within an hour of Chillicothe).
