Areas Animal Relief Coalition of Iowa serves

The Animal Relief Coalition of Iowa is a state licensed, 501(c)(3) public charity serving central Iowa. Our purpose is to rescue, rehab and rehome unwanted, special needs and hospice type pets.

We work with people and their pets to keep them together, rather then turn them over to shelters, keeping the shelters open and available to receive the wayward animals in each community.

Additional adoption info

ARC has three Phases to their adoption process to ensure that all companions find the right homes for life. With a less than 1% return rate on our adoptions, ARC makes sure that you and your companion will have a "lifetime" match so these companions never enter shelter life again. We do not adopt on a "first-come-first-serve" basis. Instead, ARC focuses on the human-animal bond making the best match for both the human and the companion...for life!

About Animal Relief Coalition of Iowa

In 2004 the Raccoon Valley Humane Society reorganized from a traditional (kill) shelter and became Iowa's leading no-kill animal welfare organization.

In 2017, we changed our name and became a public charity to better serve a wider geographical area.

ARC is dedicated to the animal welfare industry's problems by providing "solutions" to pet owners problems.

Through programs like our rehabiliation and rehome program, low-cost spaying & neutering, special needs match-up programs, and many others, ARC has been able to keep 65% of the pets in their home by owners who wanted to surrender them to a shelter.

Our mission is to eliminate the neglect, abuse and abandonment of companion animals caused by human ignorance, intolerance and indifference. And to celebrate the joys created by the human-animal bond by education and example.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
