Rescue FAQs

The Sanctuary for Senior Dogs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to the rescue, adoption, and lifelong care of senior dogs abandoned in shelters and pounds. The Sanctuary's mission also includes developing programs that match senior dogs and senior people to their mutual benefit and fostering an awareness of lifelong responsibility to our companion animals. Our in-home foster care program places senior dogs from area shelters in loving homes until they find appropriate permanent homes. All of our rescued senior dogs have been spayed or neutered, evaluated for temperament, and provided with necessary medical care. Should they not find homes, Sanctuary senior dogs have a place in our organization for life. For Adoption & Education Center hours of operation or to learn more about the Sanctuary's adoption and sponsorship programs, therapy dog training, volunteer opportunities, and other programs for senior dogs, please contact us or visit our web site.

Additional adoption info

All Sanctuary dogs are spayed or neutered before being adopted. All dogs in the potential adopters' home must also be spayed or neutered. Be responsible. Spay or neuter your companion animal.

Visit our web site to download an adoption application. Fill out the application and return it to the Sanctuary. We check your references, review your application, and contact you by phone for an interview. We will arrange a meeting at our Adoption & Education Center in Cleveland with the dog of your choice. Once you have decided on the dog, we schedule a home visit. If approved, you can make arrangements to pick up your new best friend as soon as possible. Ask us about our senior dogs for senior people adoption program.
