Shelter FAQs

The Lenoir County SPCA is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization located in Kinston, NC. We are run by a non-profit organization rather than the county's animal control department. Our shelter annually accepts approximately 2,500 stray, neglected, abused or surrendered animals from Lenoir County and we do not limit this intake based on health, temperament or age. We receive only partial funding for shelter operations from Kinston/Lenoir County, leaving us with a significant deficit every month. The remaining expenses are paid by private donors and any profit earned from our Second Chances Thrift Store. To help save additional animals, our rescue coordinator works with reputable rescue organizations throughout the US to transport our animals to rescues or shelters for adoption! Our small shelter receives an average of 8 new homeless pets every day. Please spay & neuter your pets!
