Shelter FAQs

The Wyandotte Animal Adoption Center acts as the adoption facility for Downriver Central Animal Control. The intake facility (located in Southgate, MI) handles all intakes (strays, abandoned animals, court cases...). The adoption facility (located in Wyandotte, MI) brings the animals over (if adoptable) and have completed their requisite holds at the intake facility. This can sometimes take a few weeks if the adoption center is at capacity. The facilities handle approximately 500-700 animals per year. OUR ADOPTION FACILITY IS RESCUE FRIENDLY. If you are a foster for a recognized rescue and are interested in a particular animal, please email us at wacvolunteers@gmail.com!
Wyandotte Animal Adoption Center acts as the adoption facility for our intake facility (Downriver Central Animal Control). All strays and abandoned animals go through DCAC first for assessment, then are moved to the adoption facility once deemed adoptable and as soon as space is available. Interested in meeting or adopting a cat or dog? * Go to www.wacshelter.com * CLICK THE "APPLY ONLINE" BUTTON FOR AN ONLINE APPLICATION! :) * You will get an email confirmation * Once your application has been processed (that can take 1-3 days) a volunteer will call or email with any questions. * We then set up a time with you to meet the animal you've applied to adopt! Additional adoption info

Our facility requires a survey (application) to be filled out by each potential adopter in order to facilitate a good match between applicant and pet.

Feline $100
The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, combo test, distemper vaccine, and rabies vaccine if old enough.
Canine $150
The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, first distemper vaccine, and rabies vaccine and heartworm test if old enough.
Cash only is accepted.
