Pets Lifeline Animal shelter in Sonoma, CA

MISSION
Pets Lifeline exists to protect and care for stray and abandoned dogs and cats in the Sonoma Valley while working to reduce pet homelessness through shelter, rehabilitation, community education and public service.

SERVICES
We take in and care for stray and abandoned dogs and cats, by providing them with food, shelter, medical attention and loving attention. Shelter dogs are walked daily and receive obedience training while they are with us. Our resident cats and kittens are highly socialized by volunteers and visitors.

We adopt these dogs and cats into loving permanent homes. All shelter animals are spay/neutered BEFORE adoption. In addition they are seen by a vet before adoption and receive all necessary vaccinations. Shelter animals are de-wormed, and treated for fleas as well.

We coordinate a very active pet lost and found program to help reunite pets with their owners. Staff and volunteers take both lost and found animal reports on a daily basis and maintain files. When people call in to report a lost pet, we can quickly check our files and often make a same day link between owner and pet. Similarly, when lost animals are brought into the Shelter, our lost animal reports expedite the process of reuniting pets with their owners.

We provide, personalized ID tags for dogs and cats and offer low cost microchipping identification services to pet owners.

We offer sliding scale spay/neuter services, and free low-income vaccination clinics.

We coordinate a program to trap, spay/neuter and maintain feral (wild) cats. The cats are then released and maintained by a colony caretaker. We also rent traps to people who wish to trap and fix feral cats on their property.

We help area residents to find and adopt non-shelter animals. We maintain files for both persons requesting a certain type of animal and owners who need to release a pet for whatever reason. Often we are able to link the two and facilitate an adoption of a non shelter animal. We also refer people to the other shelters and pet rescue services within Sonoma County to maximize pet adoptions.

We conduct ongoing community education services to raise the level of public awareness about responsible pet ownership. We speak in the schools and before community service organizations. We host humane education camps and classes for youth. We conduct tours of the Shelter for interested groups.

We provide information and assistance to pet owners. We offer ongoing consulting and assistance to those who have adopted a shelter animal and to the community at large.

We provide free pet food to low income families.
