Additional adoption info

Adopting a horse is a serious responsibility. Horses require a lot of time, patience, money, commitment, knowledge, love, proper care, companionship, housing and much more. Our goal at HCW is to find these equines new loving, knowledgeable, permanent homes where they will never have to face fear again, whether it be fear of not being fed or watered, fear of not being warm enough in the winter or sheltered enough in the summer, fear of being mistreated or neglected, fear of being shipped off to an auction or a slaughter house. We want these equines to feel loved, feel safe and be well looked after in their new homes.

If you are interested in adopting a horse or pony from HCW please fill out an application form. Your information will then be reviewed and you will be contacted either by phone or by email. If we have the particular horse you are interested in, or something similiar you will be invited out to meet that horse or pony, either here at HCW or at the horse's current foster home. After the viewing, we will follow up with you, and will discuss further adoption procedures, or we will explain to you why adoption of this horse is not suitable for you at this time.

Home (farm/facility) Inpections will be conducted, and References will be checked.

Trailering arrangements can be made from our end, but the costs are your responsibility.

Equines adopted through HCW Equine Rescue CANNOT be sold or given away or sent to an auction under any circumstances. They must always be returned to HCW. We do not want to lose track of any of these horses. Partial Adoption Fees will be Refunded when the Horse is Safely Returned to HCW.

About Heaven Can Wait Equine Rescue

This Equine Rescue was started by Claire Malcolm in 1997 to help save horses and ponies from slaughter, and take in any unwanted horse or pony and find them a new, loving home. Not all Horses at HCW are old and lame, or come from abusive/neglective situations, some come from private individuals who want to find a good home for their horse, but don't have the time or knowledge to sell it privately, but don't want to send it to an auction, so they send them here to HCW to find a good home. As you know horses that end up at auctions do have a chance to get bid on by a caring family home, but they also risk the chance of being bid on by a bad home or worse, the meat man.

HCW has found loving new homes for over 800+ equines in the past 13 years (& has even helped find new homes for a few donkeys, pigs, goats, cats & dogs along the way!).

For those of you who think people get into the rescue business for the money..... you are very wrong, we are now $100,000 in debt from running this rescue and we would do it all over again if it means we can continue to help save our four legged friends!

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
