Rescue FAQs

I adopted several cats from shelters and helped as many strays as I could by fixing them and finding homes. I used to be a foster home for the local SPCA, before the day when my veterinarian sent me on a rescue mission for one momma cat and I discovered 24 cats and kittens at one property. That is when Healing Animal SCARS was truly born. I deal primarily with feral cats and their offspring, as I didn't know of anyone else willing to get involved with these seemingly ferocious creatures. I feel that it isn't the cat's fault that s/he was born outside and not socialized properly with humans in the first crucial 6-8 weeks of it's life. Growing up feral makes it hard to trust humans, but with much reassurance and patience and love, thesee feral cats make wonderful companions in many cases. For the truly difficult cats, that are near impossible to tame, we simply perform a TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) to prevent the cat from prolific breeding and to improve it's health and quality of life.
Feral Cat rescue and rehabilitation in Eastern Passage, Dartmouth and Halifax area. There is no physical shelter, as we are a network of foster families until the cat is adopted to a fur-ever home. We provide TNR services for citizens with feral cats who they would like to prevent from having more kittens.

Additional adoption info

Each cat is tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, then vaccinated fully and spayed or neutered. All other health care as required for parasites and infections is covered by the rescue. Since we spend in excess of $300 per cat, we ask for a donation of $150 to offset costs.
We thoroughly screen adopters to find the best match for skittish and shy cats, by completing a 5 page application and interviewing people in person to get true responses. If accepted as a potential home, the adopter will have to sign a contract agreeing to keep the cat as an indoor only pet and not to ever de-claw the cat.
