Parrot Outreach Society

Animal rescue in Punta Gorda, FL

We take in parrots who can no longer stay with their owners for whatever reason. If these companion pets have behavioral, physical or psycholocial issues, we work with them or seek treatment to correct the problems. These companions are then placed for adoption. We do have minimal adoption fees, an application must be completed and a home visit done before ever meeting the birds. We are 100% volunteer and non-profit. We participate as PETCO partners providing public education regarding parrot care and behavior. We also attend other pet oriented events to offer education. There are so many cat and dog rescues working hard to help with these animals. Parrot rescues are few and far between. We serve a 5 county area for adoption but actually have birds driven to us from all over the state of FL to be relinquished.
We are always looking for volunteers. If you have a special talent let us know or if you just want to help socialize the birds we have many opportunities to offer. We also have a fostering program that's always in need of volunteers. We take donations of any type of parrot related items and certainly appreciate any monetary donations provided.

Rescue FAQs

Mission Statement:
The Parrot Outreach Society is a non-profit organization whose sole concern is parrot welfare in captivity and conservation of wild parrots. We are an outreach and placement program which places into safe custody, parrots which are abandoned, abused, or in need of a home for any reason.
Parrots are intelligent, highly social and complex beings with a life span of up to 80 years. The individual bird’s best interest and well being of the present flock will determine if a parrot is accepted into the organization.
We actively support networking with other parrot welfare groups, animal welfare organizations, the veterinary community, conservation organizations and the general public. Education is of the utmost importance concerning the well being of a parrot and its ability to successfully live with its human companions.

Standards of Care:
Parrot Outreach Society is a 501©(3), non-profit organization. We are a NO KILL organization working to create awareness of parrots throughout the world by supporting international conservation efforts and local public education regarding pet parrots. We currently maintain 6 programs: education, rescue, rehabilitation, foster care, adoption and conservation.

Additional adoption info

We require an adoption application, home visit and 3 separate 1 hour visits with the bird you would like to adopt prior to the bird going home. You can find the adoption application on our website at www.parrotoutreachsociety.org on the page labeled forms.
