Rescue FAQs

The Colorado Shih Tzu and Maltese Rescue (CSTMR) was founded in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt rescue organization. We are based in Denver and are a member of the All Breed Rescue Network (ABRN). Our mission is to provide a safe and loving environment for Shih Tzu, Maltese, Lhasa Apso and occasionally other small mixed breed dogs until appropriate permanent forever homes can be found. We care for relinquished dogs from owners who can no longer keep or care for their dogs. We also receive dogs from numerous shelters throughout the Denver Metro area and from individuals who have found stray dogs and who have been unsuccessful in locating their owners. CSTMR brings these little dogs into our homes and in the process gets to know each dog's individual personality, temperament, and habits so we can match them with the most suitable home.
We serve the greater Denver metro area. We do not adopt out of state. WE ARE CURRENTLY IN DIRE NEED OF FOSTER HOMES FOR OUR DOGS! EVEN IF YOU CAN ONLY HELP ON A TEMPORARY BASIS, PLEASE CONTACTUS TODAY!

Additional adoption info

Please visit our site, www.coloradoshihtzumalteserescue.org for an adoption application. Please fill out the application and submit it following the instructions on our website. The fee to adopt our dogs is $300.00. We ask that our adoption families have a fenced-in yard, do not have very young children, and are committed to making a loving, forever home for our rescue dogs.
Our dogs are checked by a veterinarian, tested for heartworm, microchipped, neutered or spayed, and groomed.
WE DO NOT DO OUT -OF-STATE ADOPTIONS. We only adopt to people who live in Colorado.
