Rescue FAQs

Puppy Dog Ranch speaks for those who have no voice and act for those who have no choice. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity. We rescue, rehabilitate and re-home the abandoned, abused, neglected, injured, senior and special needs dogs and dogs living in kill shelters and throughout New Mexico. We are a no-kill, no cage rescue, founded in 2009, originally run from our home ranch and sanctuary on 7+ acres in Arenas Valley, NM. In 2019 WE MOVED FROM THAT LOCATION TO LAS CRUCES IN 2019. We are not open to the public only by appointment specifically to see an available dog or to volunteer. In addition to our adoptable dogs, we care for 10 special needs dogs live their lifetime in our home. Laurie cares for 10 dogs a day and PDR relies on DONATIONS to operate (via PayPal).
We will be restoring our Facebook page sometime in July 2026.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit private NO KILL NO CAGE rescue located at our Home Rescue Ranch in Las Cruces/Radium Springs, New Mexico. Our original home Rescue Ranch location is in Arenas Valley, New Mexico. Since 2009 we are run 100% by unpaid volunteer and are funded solely by donations and grants. We are proud of our stringent adoption guidelines which allows us to continue our 99% adoption success rate!

Beginning in 2019, we focus on rescue and being a lifetime home sanctuary for special needs dogs, but continue to take in dogs and puppies on an as needed individual basis. If we take in a dog, he/she must have a foster home since we do not. WE DO NOT HAVE VOLUNTEERS AND ARE NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. WE RUN ENTIRELY ON DONATIONS.
We do not transport dogs. We recommend a 3 day sleepover with a prequalified adopter, prior to adoption. Please ask us to email our Adoption Application/Contract to you.

Adoption steps

Additional adoption info

This info and these Guidelines have been updated. Please email Laurie West at puppydogranch@gmail.com with questions, for more information or for an Adoption Application to be emailed to you. Please mention the dog and that you saw him or her on Adoptapet.

We match our dogs' personalities and energy levels to potential adopters' lifestyles and continue to have a 99% adoption success rate. Once the Adoption Application is approved, we've had a telephone interview and home and yard photos are received, we encourage a meet and greet at our Rescue Ranch (location depends on where the rescued dog is currently living) and if that is successful, a 3 day sleepover prior to adoption. We do not transport our dogs but will adopt them out of state if the adopter makes the time and care to travel to our small home Ranch.
