Shelter FAQs

In 1978 a group of neighbors got together to provide foster homes and find families for the ever-increasing number of stray animals roaming the Tri-Lakes area. As the program grew, it became apparent that a shelter facility was necessary. After ten years of fund raising, the Tri-Lakes Humane Society opened in June, 1988!

We are a no-kill 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides temporary shelter for stray and abandoned animals while seeking to find them permanent homes. We receive no state or local funding and rely solely on public donations.
We try to take most animals from Stone County and Taney County. All our animals are spayed and neutered before adoption.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
  2. Interview
    1. Shelter employees will ask questions to assure the cat or dog is being placed in appropriate home.
  3. Pay Fee
    1. Cats: $85
      Kittens: $100
      Dogs: $125
Small Dogs (under 25lbs) and Puppies: $150
Long Term Residents (Over 1 year): 50% Off
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
  5. Take the Pet Home
    1. All dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier. Both are sold at the shelter, if needed.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fee is $125 for a dog adoption and $85 for a cat adoption, however, we sometimes make exceptions for special needs animals. We offer "2FURR" adoptions and "Monthly Specials". We take cash, check and card ($3 fee).
