Additional adoption info

An application is completed either online or in person at adoption sites. A home visit is completed to ensure pet and environment are a match. An adoption contract, and if applicable, a spay/neuter contract is completed and signed. We require a fenced-in yard appropriate to the size and/or abilities of the dog. We do not adopt to outside 24/7 situations since all of our dogs are crate/potty trained, socialized in foster homes with family lifestyles. Our adoption donation/fee is $160.00 for dogs either mixed or purebred. This includes all vaccines including rabies, all appropriate tests applicable to age at the time of adoption, spay or neuter included, and microchipping included.

About Save The Animals Rescue Society, Inc. (STARS)

Save The Animals Rescue Society, Inc. (STARS) is licensed by the State of Georgia as a rescue shelter. We are a non-profit corporation and have a 501c3 status, which means that all donations to STARS are tax deductible. STARS operates through a network of loving foster homes. We are a no-kill facility. Any animal accepted into the STARS system will have a home in our organization until a “forever” home is found through adoption. The STARS group has a strong commitment to accepting animals from local animal control shelters, but because there are many legitimate reasons for private individuals being unable to continue caring for their animals, we strive to accept private releases when possible so that these animals don’t become another number at the animal control shelter with an approximate 90% chance of being euthanized after a traumatic “stay” at the shelter. Since animals don’t recognize city or county boundary lines, we accept releases from Richmond , Columbia , Burke, Jefferson Counties and the CSRA area which includes areas across the state line in South Carolina. We receive no funding from local or state government agencies or from national humane groups. We are totally dependent on community support to run our no-kill rescue shelter organization. Our fur babies are quarantined 10-21 days to ensure as much as possible that they are disease free; they are given all vaccinations including rabies; they are seen by local veterinarians for medical checkups; they are given heartworm tests if age appropriate and given heartworm treatment if needed; they are microchipped; and they are spayed or neutered as part of the requirements for adoption. They are fostered in homes which provide love, socialization, nuturing, and some training to ensure they are loving family pets. We desperately need foster homes for puppies and young dogs. We also need volunteers to assist at adoptions on Saturdays. Please call the STARS information telephone number to see how you can help save lives by being a volunteer.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
