Rescue FAQs

We are a non-profit volunteer-run no-kill rescue. Scott Rood, Director and Head Poop Scooper, has been rescuing and rehabilitating Great Danes for over 35 years. Although the majority of our dogs come to us as a result of divorce, relocation and foreclosure, we accept and rehabilitate danes that no other shelter would touch. Many of those abused danes remain at the shelter where they receive the structure they require to live out long healthy lives. Our dogs live together in a pack as nature intended, able to move in and out of doors as they please, socialized to the other dogs and able to exercise at will.
We serve Great Danes in Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Eastern Iowa and Northern Indiana.

Additional adoption info

Fees vary based on the age and desireability of the Dane. We try to cover our medical costs with the adoption fee. As part of our preparation for placement, each Dane receives a Laparoscopic Assisted Gastropexy (also known as a stomach tack), a proven preventative of gastric torsion or bloat. Each Dane additionally receives a spay or neuter, rabies vaccination, bordetella vaccination, heartworm testing, microchip, dental exam, dental cleaning, ear cleaning and nail trimming. Young, healthy stomach-tacked Danes are typically $1,000. Older and less desirable dogs are available for a smaller fee. Great homes with limited financial resources may qualify for a payment plan.
