Rescue FAQs

Halt Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue organization that rescues homeless and unwanted dogs from high kill shelters and abusive neglectful situations in Bakersfield. To save as many dogs as possible from the awful situations they have been placed in by no fault of their own. Such as: High Risk (72 hour hold) kill shelters Abandonment Starvation/Lack of care Abuse/Neglect Halt Rescue arranges and pays for the dogs vetting, vaccinations, spay/neutering and microchipping. Then we find loving foster homes to care for them until we can find permanent forever homes where they get a second chance for a wonderful, happy life.
Halt Rescue serves Bakersfield and surrounding counties in Kern. Plus we have adopted dogs to wonderful families from Northern California to Southern California, Washington , and Nevada.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees range from $225 to $450 depending on the dog. This fee includes spay/neutering, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping.

The adoption process:
Complete and submit adoption application. We check references and do a home check if possible (if not we have potential adopters send pictures of their yard).

If approved as an adopter you are able to meet your new
family member. You will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee prior to taking your dog home.

There is a two week trial period for every adoption in case there are any unforseen circumstances that arise.
