Rescue FAQs

For the Love of Danes Rescue Society is a Registered Non Profit Society based out of Calgary, Alberta and have been in operation since June 2009. We serve the province of Alberta through our network of dedicated responsible breeders, New Hope for Danes and Danes in Distress and we are the official Breed Rescue for the Great Dane Club of Canada in western Canada. Our mission is to rescue all Danes who are not wanted, can no longer be kept for various reasons, or are in undesirable situations, and place them. All Danes surrendered to us are given veterinary care as required; some may only require a check up to confirm good health while others may need more attention. As well, any Dane received into our care is either spayed or neutered. Finally, their temperaments are carefully assessed to ensure placements into appropriate environments.
We serve Alberta.

Additional adoption info

We require a completed application to be submitted in order to adopt. References are checked, including contacting the potential adopter's vet to ensure that existing pets in the home are well cared for and that information on the application is correct regarding the number of pets. A home visit is then arranged between one of our volunteers where a check list is filled out to ensure the home meets our standards and that the animals already in the home are well cared for. This also gives us a chance to see how they interact with their pets and gives us a better idea on what dog would be a good fit for their home. Once these steps are completed, we will arrange a meeting between the adopter and the dane. If that goes well, a contract is signed and a donation is requested. The donation is based on several factors - the age of the dane, any health issues, etc. Danes under the age of 3 are usually adopted for $350. Danes under the age of 5 are usually $250 and dogs over the age of 5 are $150. Seniors or Danes with health issues that will require long term care are $100. About a month after the adoption, we will arrange a followup visit to ensure the dog is settling in well. We maintain contact with our adopters through email and are always there to work with them should any issues arise.
