Shelter FAQs

Our staff is ready to help you and your family find the right pet for your household, an animal who will spend the rest of his or her life with you. The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA takes in close to 1,000 homeless animals every year and we need to find permanent and loving homes for as many as we can! We do not euthanize animals for space constraints.
Serving Columbia and Greene Counties in the Hudson Valley of New York state.

Additional adoption info

Our pet adoption staff is trained to ask key questions to help you make the right choice, and our application process helps us get to know you better so we can make sure our animals will be adopted into the homes they deserve.

All of our animals are spayed or neutered, up to date on necessary vaccinations, and microchipped before they are adopted. Cats are further tested for Feline Heartworm, Feline Leukemia, and Feline Aids before leaving and our canine friends are tested for Heartworm, Lyme Disease, and other tick borne illnesses. We want to do our best that all of our animals are as healthy as they can be when they go into their new home.
