Rescue FAQs

Cane's Crossing is works out of the Hiawassee Veterinary Clinic. It began with taking in animals that were left on our doorstep. However, in 2008, a puppy came to us with the name, Cane. Cane was only 3 months old and was already limping. Within a week, he was paralyzed in his back legs. The owners chose not to care for him anymore, and we took him in. With donations from our wonderful clients, we were able to get him a wheelchair, and he was up and running! He had such a wonderful spirit and was adopted by a loving family. After a year, he was diagnosed with a tumor that ended his life. We look back at Cane and know that he lived his short life to the fullest. That's how Cane's Crossing was started. Now, we focus on animals that may now have a chance in a shelter setting. We have treated many heartworm positive dogs, dogs that have had to have leg amputations, and kittens with severe eye trauma.
Cane's Crossing serves central Florida, centralizing in the Greater Orlando Area. We have adopted animals to wonderful families in Tampa, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, and Miami.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process begins with a simple meet-n-greet. If, after spending some quality time with our furry friends, you decide that you would like to adopt we then go over some adoption paperwork. The adoption fee for kittens, puppies, and adult dogs is $100.00, which includes all of their first year vaccines, spay/neuter, Fiv/Felv test (for kittens), Heartworm test (for dogs) and deworming. The adoption fee for adult cats is $50.00, and includes all of the above. If any animal is adopted with a pre existing condition (ie. heartworm positive, surgical issues), the adoption fee will cover those costs as well.
