Rescue FAQs

Ontario Bloodhound Rescue (OBR) is a small, not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned Bloodhounds, placing them in loving, approved homes across Ontario and neighbouring States. OBR is committed to placing homeless Bloodhounds into permanent, loving homes as family companions. All Bloodhounds in our care are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, are on heartworm prevention, up to date on vaccinations and provided any necessary medical care. Our Bloodhounds are placed in a foster home where their temperaments, personalities and needs are evaluated so that we can find the best possible match between each individual Bloodhound and their adoptive home. OBR remains committed to each Bloodhound for the rest of its life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the Bloodhound be returned to Ontario Bloodhound Rescue.

Additional adoption info

Adoption applications can be requested by email onbhrescue@yahoo.ca One of our volunteers will contact you to follow-up on your application. We have a small number of volunteers, so please be patient while we work on your application. OBR is committed to matching the right Bloodhound with the right family and we appreciate your patience. OBR reviews current applications on file for first consideration for the Bloodhounds we have available. If you would like to adopt a Bloodhound, please be sure to have your application on file.

All adoptive homes are required to go through a screening process that includes references and a home visit. An adoption fee is required to offset some of the costs incurred in caring for and re-homing each Bloodhound. OBR remains committed to each animal for the rest of their life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the Bloodhound be returned to OBR.

Bloodhounds require A SECURELY FENCED YARD. Invisible/underground electric fences don't work on these dogs. They get on a scent and are totally oblivious to anything else around them.....including traffic. Bloodhounds don't tie or chain well either. They are fine for apartment living as long as they get enough exercise.
All of our dogs are adopted to be 'in-the-house' family members. Bloodhounds are not for everyone, they can't roam free and can't be walked off leash. Please research the breed prior to requesting an adoption application.
